My character’s chosen home planet has a frankly ridiculous average temp; there would be firestorms at the equator fueled solely by atmospheric gases, because nothing would grow, and deciduous trees at the poles with a narrow ring of temperate and subtropical climates just below.
Hewing strictly to arbitrary procedural nonsense isn’t my thing, so I just say she’s from a very warm planet and her family’s farm is at a high latitude. It works out all right.
