I am doing a lot of highsec hauling now. I have billions worth of items that need to go to various trade hubs like Jita and Amarr. I quickly noticed the omega freighters have chance of getting ganked in highsec so my plan is to haul using the lesser Tayra and Bestower. This means about 8 two way trips per billion isk. Best estimate, I might get the job done in 2 or 3 days.
I was told in chat, to mix garbage in with the most expensive mats. The idea is when they cargo scan you, the garbage discourages the gank. The garbage might be the only thing to survive. I was informed the chances are the same no matter the value of the items. Mixing 60% rubbish means. they should only get 20% of the valued items?
This is what I have so far;
Don’t put all the cargo in a freighter - like all the eggs in one basket, make multiple trips.
Mix in rubbish with the crown jewels - lessen their odds of winning.
Don’t fly planned routes - predictable routes get camped.
Move cargo in off hours - wait for the gankers to sleep.
Never use the autopilot - of course not.
Any tips or tricks I am missing here?
btw If you are a ganker reading this, Malcoy here never flys frieght to dock. Don’t waste your time looking for him.
Docking and undocking bookmarks (obviously). I have some proprietary tricks that work well - email me in-game. I don’t want to post them here because… eyes.
I do have bookmarks for docking in Jita and Amarr. Why would I need undocking? The ships are empty coming out of the trade hub. Could you give an example of where an undocking bookmark is needed?
Same thing, but in reverse. Docking bookmarks allow you to insta-dock; Undocking bookmarks allow you to quickly warp to a set of coordinates on undocking (usually in a straight direction from the station, so as to minimize align time). Undocking coordinates need to be at least 100km (ideally 150km or more) from the station.
@Malcoy_Tweedhouse you could cut your trips in half – like I do – self destruct while in you hangar to pop back to where you came from. Just have the haulers bought at or nearby the starting point, you need the clone to have no implants, you lose them upon death. I sell the empty haulers off in Jita. It really is a very small loss, unless you have rigs on them.
How far the mighty have fallen… This is what happens when you farm new players to oblivion. No more high-sec wardecs, far fewer players and less PvP…
Fixed it for you… You do understand the concept of “catch and release”, yes? I’m guessing that even if you could capture and ransom - you’d still prefer blowing sh*t up…
More like 500km min, 1000km+ to be safe. You want to end up in a spot that would take longer to reach by even the fastest tackler with the longest range scram than it will take for your ship to align again and warp out. With a big, slow freighter, that needs to be a pretty long head start (45s+, even with good skills).
That’s a major caveat, though, since you’re sacrificing potential bonuses. E.g., a full set of Nomads can shave ~40% off your align time. On a T1 hauler, that <4s savings might not be a big deal, but on a freighter with a 47s align time, it’s a noticeable improvement.
