And what’s “the players” excuse for not anticipating it?

Because most players complaining dont seem to believe it wasnt fine before, ergo how could CCP forsee a mistake that those critising the changes now refuse to believe existed?

On the one hand, it’s not the players’ responsibility to understand ahead of time what the effects of changes the devs make will be. It is, however, literally the developers’ job to anticipate that sort of thing.

But at the same time… plenty of players did anticipate the effects of a lot of changes, both the scarcity changes and the ones leading up to it. However, when you’re in a competitive environment (nullsec, for example), you can’t afford to not use the optimized solutions, because your enemy will, and then you’re at a significant disadvantage.

So, for example, nobody was going to just agree not to seriously overuse rorqs and not build supercapital fleets that were absolutely as massive as they could manage. That wasn’t going to happen. It’s a constant arms race, and nobody in leadership wants to screw over our people by intentionally losing that race. So even when we do see what the long-term problems will be… we can’t afford to not use the thing. We can only tell the devs what we see coming, and tell our CSM reps. And they tell the devs, too…

But they can’t force the devs to listen.

One of these groups has an actual responsibility to the well-being of the game, and puts food on their table and pays their rent by meeting that responsibility. The other pays money to have fun. There is no equivalency between them.

Asking why the players didn’t anticipate the effects is like saying that if someone bought a Ford Pinto in the 1970s, why didn’t they know ahead of time that there was a flaw with the tailgate and gas tank that could cause the car to explode if rear-ended? After all, they’re driving the car, they ought to have a mechanical engineering degree to make sure it was safe, right?

It’s not the players’ job to anticipate it. It’s the devs’ job.

The land of NULL SEC developed as hostile hareas and where united players fight for sovereignty and to develop their alliances and empires obtaining greater wealth, that is the context of going to null sec, and it cannot be that it is becoming a land nerfied and miserable and now it turns out to be more advantageous to live in safe space, the rorqual, the super carrier and titans were created for wars and defenses, they have finished with the land of null sec little by little and we already saw hundreds leave the game for the damage and modifications they make. We no longer want to lose more friends because they continue to damage the context that was offered in the game at first and for many years, if the problem is to increase monetary gains, they can innovate products that are consumed, easily acquired but that consume plex, accessories for characters, innovation in skins for stations, ships, before there was the part where you could interact with your character in the station and that would be great, it will return but with a context of creating it to relate in the markets, between stations of the alliances, etc. With an endless number of products for sale that can be from 10, 20 or 30 plex to 50, or 150, it would generate more purchase of plex and more demand for it, more monetary investment and they would be increasing profits without damaging the game that many have, obviously these comments are superficial, the ideas for all this must be specified and landed.

The same reason that some random off the internet can’t skill inject into a ship and PvP as good as some youtube video from 8 years ago.

Have to say introducing skill injectors and turning the rorqual into a mining powerhouse at the same time was a mistake.

Forcing the development team to listen earlier, since they do listen eventually, just it should be weeks and not a timeframe of months/years.

Translation: “we needed someplace to hide some money from the tax man, and they’ve been around long enough to be a stable purchase AND give us leverage in Iceland as a tax haven.”

In fact, we told them quite bluntly what would happen. As Fozzie admitted on these forums at the time, it was a decision specifically made to drive PLEX sales: make the Rorq dominant, and people will need to keep up with the guys with the most rorqs. So everyone will need to get as many rorqs as they can. That means they’ll need to inject into them. Which means they’ll need injectors, which come from extractors, which costs PLEX.

They weren’t even subtle about it. We told them it’d break the game, we told them the Rorq was ridiculously OP, the CSM told them the same thing. They did it anyway, and admitted it was a naked cash grab.

The problem is that CCP developers are human beings, and they’re subject to the same failings all human beings are. Once they have an idea, and they think they know WTF they’re doing with that idea, it can be incredibly hard to convince them they’re wrong. If even 1 person on the CSM validates their idea, that’s all it takes for them to ignore the entire rest of the CSM telling them they’re wrong.

If all this is the case, then why keep playing? And if not, why keep complaining? (Thats a general question, not one aimed at yourself specifically)

I may have missed some context here but if “because I like the people I play with” is your reason for anything then I’m suspect you have answered most questions about Eve perfectly.

You can’t, true. But at the very least, by doing what they do, they give you a very neat excuse to berate them and make them feel bad for justifiable and not imaginary reasons. It comes at a great cost but it’s also a nice advantage. You can’t call abuse if the berating is just retelling the reality they created themselves. Poor CCP Convict. :innocent:

Convict’s a good egg. So’s Aurora. They’ve been playing a while, and haven’t stopped when they became CCP community reps. I got nothin’ but love for 'em both. And really, all of the devs are trying… they just fall into the same stumbles and missteps we all do.

God knows I’ve done that same ‘I know I’m right no matter what you all tell me, BOB agrees!’ when it comes to ship fittings and doctrines (and things non-EVE related, too, obviously). It’s normal. We all do it. We’ve got our PoV, and if someone backs it up, that’s all we need to pull a ‘two against the WORLD!!’ moment…

… and probably be horribly, horribly wrong, in the process. But we still do it. The devs aren’t bad when they do it. They’re just people.

No, PA’s been printing money over in Korea. They needed someplace to stash it, and the VCs who owned CCP wanted to sell a company that’s a significant enough chunk of Iceland’s economy to get the President of Iceland to address FanFest.

No, it means things like increasing the drops etc. Hauler rats might have more valuable ore, for example.

I promise, when you include phrasing like ‘game wrecking’, you pretty much shoot your chances of CCP answering in the head.
