The like and get likes thread II

Hello lovelies. Today we had a family reunion. We had a wonderful lunch together. I am in high spirits. But that is not the thing important to me I wanted to share.

As you know I am interested in being fit. Until I’m able to go to the gym, I do calisthenics at home. Through YouTube, I also do research on how to eat and train. After watching several videos, YouTube suggested a video for me titled: “The only bodybuilder to get a perfect score.” I watched it out of curiosity and learned that there was indeed a bodybuilder in bodybuilding history to get a perfect score from the judges.

His name was Mike Mentzer and scored a perfect 300 at Mr. Universe 1978. He then became a professional bodybuilder by competing in 1979 Mr. Olympia. There, he scored a perfect 300 again and won the “Heavy Weight” division of the competition only to lose against the “Light Weight” winner Frank Zane in the final. In the following year he competed in 1980’s Mr. Olympia and at that competition, Arnold Schwarzenegger made a dick move by joining the competition on the competition day because there was no rule preventing him from doing so. Arnold won the competition and incited protests from the other competing bodybuilders. Mike placed 4th and vowed never to return again at the young age of 29. He accused of the competitions being rigged and wasn’t on good terms with Arnold until his death.

At the start of the 90s, Mike took a young British boy under his wings and trained him by his training principles. That boy went on to win Mr. Olympia 6 times between 1992-1997. The boy showed no signs of slowing until he tore his left arm’s biceps and triceps 3 weeks before the 1997 competition. The then boy’s name was Dorian Yates.

Here are some photos of Mike Mentzer:

Mike died on June 10, 2001 at the age of 49. His nickname was “Mr. Heavy Duty”.

The reason why I like M.M. is because he is aesthetically muscular and not too buff.

Sincerely, bodybuilding is something I’ve never understood. I don’t find those bodies pretty, they’re just very muscular, too muscular, oversizedly muscular. It’s just… volume. Not beauty.

Also, I wonder something. Maybe i’m mistaken, but, weren’t you overweigt? Is that the reason why you say “when I am able to go to gym”?.

See, I’ve been overweight for most of my life. As a child, I was like any other child, not even chubby, and the most disctintive trait (the one some children would mock me for) was my large head and the thick glasses. I started gaining weight before puberty, partly i guess because that was also when our family life went down the sink and started the process that ended in my mental breakdown at 17. And I’ve been overweight ever since.

In the last months, my body mass index has rised to “morbid obesity”, after years on the verge of “severe obesity”. I am struggling with the need to start exercising and be more careful with how much I eat, and what do I eat. Taking care of oneself beyond being just comfortable is difficult when the deeper truth, the core of your personality, is that you’d rather be dead than keep acting this stupid play called life… but I digress.

To the point. One of the lessons I learned from my therapist, and a very valuable one that makes a lot of sense, is this one:

There are no exit doors to being you

This means that setting a lofty goal (an “exit door”) will not change the person you are, whereas in order to change the person you are if that does you harm, does not depend on reaching a milestone, a goal, an exit door.

“If I move to…” “If i work as…” “If I buy…” “If i earn X sum of money…” -none of that will change who you are. There is no exit door to you being you.

You should only bodybuild if you enjoy it. Not to stop being chubby Odysseus and eventually get from life what you expect from it. If you had to be that other person, that vision, you’d become that person just by being you. But the real question is never how to become that person, but to know what person you are, and make peace with it.

As topic as it is: love yourself. This doesn’t means you should kill yourself with overweight, if you can avoid to. But maybe attempting to mimic Mike Mentzer when you’re already older than he was when he retired is not the solution.

Addendum:

It’s a wee bit of an exaggeration, but “exercising” is “putting your body into survival mode for no effin reason” and it may not achieve the desired results…

I have returned from the abyss.

The fisheye view is a bit trippy but overall the space gives off a creepy vibe.

The structures are really sexy. Maybe one day we will get Triglavidels.

Time for bed. 5am comes quick.
