I have good musical memory, and my father haves a large collection of music and I spent all my childhood listening it as he played back his music. That gave me a headstart of some 9,000 themes to know of, and then I just kept exploring around…
I don’t know how many themes i know -probably in excess of 20,000. Whenever I hear something “new”, I can tell whether I heard it before or don’t. If it interested me, I might remember certain parts enough to play them back in my memory. With further playbacks and interest i memorize the title and author and the whole theme. And when I really, really like it, I can play it back whole in my memory in real time, barely deviating from the actual run time of the recording.
The funny thing is I never studied music, can’t read a partiture and can’t play any instrument.
And now, here’s one of those themes I can play back whole in my memory, in real time, first note to last. Might be my favorite ever, as much as a parent could have a favorite child.
This by the way the theme of my life while I exited depression. I seriously needed everybody to take a chance with me after the insanity I inflicted upon myself and those around me literally for years.
