So what do you use then? It’s either an iPhone or android riddled with google tracking and carrier/manufacturer bloatware unless you want root and install some custom rom and maintain it yourself. And on top of that many phones have their boot loader locked.
I want nothing to do with Google so that leaves me with few options and these days I don’t have the time to maintain my own custom rom and I don’t even want to deal with it.

I dont really use phone for anything else than phoning and gps. Gps not really much more then checking where am I when in new place, like a lengthy bicycle trip. I dont use net much, just checking info on weather or quick news browsing while for example waiting for something on the city. I dont think you need like superb speed with it, like it would really matter much if you wait a second or two more for page to load? These are so quick anyway. I wondered, maybe I could buy something new, and I think spending not more than 170$ on a phone is as much as I would ever go. Xiaomi redmi 5 I had on my mind.

There is also note version, but it costs something like 2 times more for not really providing double everything. So I cant justify to myself buying and using it.

That’s what I use. May not look so shiny, but
- doesn’t support all the junk that modern people seem to can’t live without (that’s a feature!),
- doesn’t track me (especially not because I usually don’t carry it around with me),
- doesn’t have internet,
- doesn’t need charging every day (I charge it maybe once every 3 weeks),
- and it’s ■■■■■■■ indestructible. The thing would possibly survive a nuclear war.
