Time to go to sleep… nighties lovelies!

Also: listen to the Wikipedia…

The website plays sounds whenever an article on Wikipedia is edited (about 100 times each minute on average)

Bell notes are text additions. String notes are deletions. Pitch is proportional to the amount of text added or removed. Circle size is proportional to the size of the article. Gray circles are edits by registered users. Green circles are edits by unregistered users. Purple circles are wikipedia bots. A swell plays when a new user registers.

It is set to English Wikipedia by default but different languages can be turned off and on, scrolling down to the settings page.

Also: well that’s kind of a silly mistake… because it’s a mistake by some PR guy who didn’t ask any scientists about it, right? Right?

Not looking good on them…

First there were news about superconductor working in room temperature, now this, the cure for cancer!

Also: oops!

https://blogs.nasa.gov/sunspot/2023/07/28/mission-update-voyager-2-communications-pause/

They accidentally told Voyager 2 to aim the antenna towards 2 degrees from Earth, thus communications are lost at least until October 15th when the probe should aim the antenna back to Earth on its own

That’s scary, but I’m happy to learn that they have systems to recover the aim. That’s proper engineering and planning.
I’m also happy after hearing and seeing the contents of Voyager Golden Record. However, when thinking about it, if it was launched in the late 90s, it would’ve included the dial-up connecting sound.

For the Turkish sample I’m glad that they didn’t use Istanbul accent. Because the radio and TV killed all other accents spoken in Türkiye already back in the 70s. People in the rural areas gave up their accents in order to aspire to speak like in the movies.

Timezone lovelies.

I’ve always loved this video since first seeing it:

It’s a raw decoding of the original audio samples on the record. It’s imperfect because of the unskilled guy doing it with no expertise in digital image processing (but why would aliens have it?). It is mesmerizing how the audio tracks develop into images, iInto what might be the only evidence left that we ever existed.

“Hey guys, these were us on the first time we sent something out of our solar system. Sorry for not including nude pictures along with the fetus-in-womb diagram because of reasons. Don’t judge us too hard, whatever got us, at least we tried”

…those Saturdays when you live with your parents because you can’t afford a rent with your salary and so are treated with a morning quarrel because your dad, true to himself, still hasn’t noticed after 50 years of marriage that mom isn’t human and is better left alone until she’s had her morning coffee…

…and now mom, true to herself, will be bitc*y and grumpy until Monday. Weee! :woman_facepalming:t2:

Well, sometimes brute force just works…

They flooded the surrounding space of Voyager 2 with different compatible antennas on Earth blasting at full power in hopes that the scattered radiation could send enough energy towards the reception antenna on V2 and it processed the commands. It has worked.

it does even more than last time.

We’ll see. If it is what it claims it is, the cat is out of the bag with other labs rushing to produce Lk-99. If it is not what they claim… shall God have mercy of them fukkers.

(Right now my skeptic-o-meter is in “maybe it is superconductive, but in such small and odd way that it’s impractical and that’s why they’ve been hidding it for 23 years”).

There are some very unusual things going around Lk-99 and thus it remains phishy, and the only corroboration coming from chabuduo land is not the most reassuring.

So: we shall see.

I find it funny that Christopher Walken ended up with a major Dune role after this.

Who’s Christopher Walken? The guy in the video is the G-Man from Half-Life franchise.

Chances are increasing that what it shows is diamagnetism and not the Meissner effect, specially because at the original video by the team the tilted flake falls flat on the magnet at one point snd that’s physically impossible for a superconductor.
