I blame all the warlords around the world.

And they are downunder too, I accept the high priced Australian beef, though doing so effectively means I am supporting this and. Had just realised such that made me sad today.

There’s a cocodrile in the water, venomous platypuses on the banks, dropbears on the trees, poison spiders under them and that tree in the foreground is considering seriously to chase and strangle you.

Also the temperature is 115 heathen or about 45 civilized.

Photograph: Loudon Hosiery Mills, Loudon, Tennessee. Children ravelers and loopers by Lewis Wilkes Hine|, december of 1910

Ravelers sorted and fixed loose threads on stockings, and loopers operated the machine that sealed the toetips. Those jobs required swift hands and good eyesight, but the pay was low and adults wouldn’t take it so it was mostly children who made those and other low force tasks. Girls were preferred because they were more attentive and less prone to distracting out of boredom.

Time to go to sleep, but first, here’s a nifty little web to peek beyond paywalls:

It fetches archived versions of the page, just paste the relevant address and try different archive options. Option 2 uses to work fine.

And now I’m off to bed. Night night lovelies!

Also: that’s one large unique selling point…

That’s what they call ā€œthe 1000 yard stareā€, a mix of ā€œImma gonna dieā€ and ā€œwhy I am not dead?ā€ common in shell-shocked servicepersons

That’s just shock. Not the 1000 yard stare.

A 1000 yard stare has lifeless eyes.

Had to clarify for all who suffered from it from any country.

On a lighter note. I saved my co over 16k by fixing something they thought could not be fixed.

While I live in MA, I now need to drive 3.5 hrs to my sister in Kennebunkport ME to find a restaurant that serves a good baked stuffed lobster as my reward. No one cooks Maine lobster like a Maniac!
