I haven’t posted on these forums for a long long time, as I don’t really interact with EVE Forums much.
I am actually having quite a difficult time writing this, as I have in the last year not been able to talk to Issler Dainze much.
Michele Boland, aka Issler Dainze, which I’m sure is a name a fair few of you have heard through the years, was the CEO of Tadakastu-Obata and the Alliance Leader of the Honda Accord. Issler was always proud of her involvement in EVE Online, regaling her time around 2008 in Bruce, the war with Goons/Test in 2012, and her involvement and work with the EVE Online CSM in which she was a member several times. She always thought EVE Online brought the best and worst out of people, which ironically I personally saw the bad side of in 2018/19, but she always loved her involvement in the game.
Unfortunately, Issler passed away on September 19th 2020 in her own home. In EVE, she leaves behind a small corporation, which do deserve support for the loss of it’s core, and a offshoot that remember their past, for good or for bad.
I’m not asking for any parades, cyno lights or anything of that nature, but just a moment to recognise a piece of EVE history has now left us. Her rants about Space Llamas will no doubt be remembered to all the former Tadakastu-Obata that are still in EVE, and perhaps a small light of memory for a woman who just enjoyed spending time on internet spaceships and being annoyed about the Captains Quarters not being implemented.
I hope she finds the Space Llamas she always talked about.
She was in CSM 2,3, and 7…but most importantly, she really liked EvE
She was an avid and longterm EvE player who truly enjoyed the game (despite it’s issues, which she was not shy about pointing out).
With her 13 EvE characters, she experienced much of the content EvE offers, from dread tussling to WH diving-exploration. She sometimes seemed a bit of a contradiction in EvE…Issler was long a member of SA, but also wanted WiS… However, she is probably best known for her “carebear” mining/industry/internet spaceship politics main.
IRL Michele was an avid pilot and boater as well as a generous host and someone who tried to do what she could to make the world a better place.
She was one of those people who always has many things going yet progressing at the same time.
Michele/Issler dreamed big yet wasn’t afraid of criticism both irl and ingame…and actually brought many of her vision into reality (especially irl).
Professionally, she was a project manager for places like microsoft (where she helped make the graphics for the Xbox - so if you ever played that guess you have her to thank a little)
If I ever go to Reykjavik I will go to the Nonni Sandwich Shop there and get the Lamb Sub you recommended in your honour, Issler.
Thank you all for condolences, we lost a special person in EVE.
Issler Dainze was certainly a person who could be controversial, and she certainly had her moments in which were exceptionally good and exceptionally bad, I’ve seen some posts that were immensely funny and sometimes immensely cringeworthy, but behind that character, she was a woman who enjoyed playing with her friends, internet spaceships and enjoyed reminicing about the past, and missed some of her old friends herself.
Some things she used to say used to crack everyone up, her campaign to provide a fluffy space llama many years ago was one of the things that kept us all enjoying her company. I’ve still got some of the original artwork. She incorporated llamas everywhere.
Issler was one of a few leaders of a group of people who came from the defunct game “Earth and Beyond”, and Tada-o was based on a faction within the game. And she had kept the group running ever since, rebooting it five times in known history. Theres a link below for youtube if anyone wants to see what the faction adverts were on the original game.
She did have her moments, and sometimes said things that were not in the best interest, but since 2012 I always enjoyed talking to her, even at our low points between us. I will genuinely miss Issler, as she was unique to EVE, and we are diminished by her loss.
