The player base thrives on the network effect—people play because others do. However, the maintainers seems to undermine this by requiring high-end hardware for decent performance, developing multiple other games, and aggressively marketing them to EVE players. Recent content updates also feel uninspiring. You get the point.
I remember nearly 1.5 decades ago. This game was low resolution. Very low resolution. The resolution now is amazing! The ships have really nice detail and the improvements have been very nice!
The problem is that if you’re still using a low resolution computer, you won’t see the improvements. When I upgraded my monitors (I run a 3 monitor system) to 4k, I saw a huge improvement in detail! I then upgraded my GPU because my current one was having trouble running the threee monitors at 4k. I saw another improvement.
There are still somethings that need new skins (looking at YOU Gallente Stations!), but this game is getting a very much needed overhaul! You just can’t see it unless you also improve your own home system.
Bah. In terms of value over time, a good gaming computer is probably one of the cheapest things you can buy. Even a basic £1000 gaming PC with an RTX 3060, that should last at least 5 years…works out at just £4 a week.
So really I have zero sympathy for anyone who is still running a 1998 Packard Bell on a 56k modem.
