I thought it was the runaway minmatar slave on the login screen
He definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

You all should be glad I donât get EVE Lead Gameplay Designer. Iâd drown like 50% of the current players in their own tears. Empires based on renting, massmultiboxgrinding, botting and area- and content-denial via opressive force-projection would crumble.
Sometimes you just canât âfixâ it, you have to nuke it from orbit. EVE is at this point. Thanks CCP Okami for trying. Bring the big guns!
At the very least, FC (CCP) Okami has brought a lot more open dialog to many of these changes. So even if we donât necessarily agree with everything - at least we have a better understanding of the rationale behind them. ![]()
Iâm not against a nerf but the nerf as given now is more like a âweâre going to delete them entirely but we cba to actually code a removal/buyback so weâre just gonna make them useless.â
Nah, to conveniently being present in the immediate surrounding of the main staging system with a moderate-sized fast-response fleet to drive out filament gangs or wormholers that stick their nose out, they are still viable.
I have no idea what nerfs are you talking about.
But generally speaking, players always say this. On my own multiplayer server whenever I make a nerf, no matter how big, players instantly start crying on discord, boycotting the game or even ragequitting. Oh and asking for compensations. Even 1 point is too much, because sometimes that 1 point is a difference between best and second best. And they absolutely must play the best build, anything else is unplayable trash.
I have fun story about one custom class I have on my multiplayer server. When it was released it was played massively because it had really overpowered mechanuics like free teleport on any point in screen every 3 seconds (instant travel) and other goodies. I nerfed it hard, removed this mechanic and few others like double damage from one trait on its main damage dealing spell. The reaction was brutal. All players stopped playing this class immediatelly. Few ragequiitted for good and never came back. Massive crying on discord how the class is no longer playable. I ignored it. I did not buff this class back. Next year and next season nobody was playing this class. But the 2nd year after nerf some new player who didnât know the class is overnerfed started playing it, beaten all time records and shown others how strong and universal the class is. And soon half the server played it again
.
Being âthe face of eveâ is a mixed blessing. The one to thank but also the one to curse. Previously tried often CCP (at the time) decided that it was easier to say âthe teamâ rather than have one dev take the credit/blame for large changes.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
FozzieSov anyone?
So who is he?
I donât think his face looks very ânewâ the beard probably makes him look a lot older. I am just guessing he is in his mid 30âs to early 40âs? New to me would be 12 to 17 in my opinion. If you said, Brand New Face of Eve I would expect to seeâŚ
I would then agree they are new.
âNewâ? This guy has been on the launcher for months, if not years.
I mean if you wanted to kill the game entirely sure, you wouldnât have anything left
Nah, all this âyouâd kill the gameâ is just a myth, spread by those who like to keep the staus quo.
Sometimes you simply have to cut a diseased tree pretty hard in order to allow it to grow a lot stronger afterwards.
Except its not
Boxxers make up the majority of CCPâs income, if you limit everyone to a single account you kill off a number of industries and you massively increase the cost of everything, people will have less incentive to login and you have a massive drop in players, which translates to a massive drop in income
So no its not a myth its just cause and effect
Nobody talks about limiting everyone to just 1 account, but nice try.
Empires based on renting, massmultiboxgrinding, botting and area- and content-denial via opressive force-projection would crumble.
I mean you specifically mention multiboxing there would crumble, which means you had some sort of plans to make it either not worth running multiple accounts or to limit it, because there really isnât anything you can change in that regard, if it makes ISK running it solo then people will box it to make money faster
So unless you plan to make null literally worthless by removing all content, you literally canât make multiboxing crumble like you describe, renting will always exist and there is no way to prevent that either, and youâre never going to retain players this way even if you could
So the changes youâre describing would destroy the game for a large portion of its playerbase and result in everything getting more expensive, like i get you seem to think that you have some magic solution to the problem that wonât drive players away, but i can almost guarantee that is not the case
I think you need to read again. I never wrote anything about âmultiboxingâ, but mentioned âmassmultiboxingâ specifically. Which means, people running content with 5, 10, 15, 20 accounts. The guy running sites in 2 Ishtars or using a Porpose and 2 Exhumers is absolutely no problem for the game. People using their own scouts, or cynos or doing PvP while having some char in Jita to haul or buy stuff are also not a problem.
MASSmultiboxing, aka single players running whole fleets alone to grind ISK and resources that are meant for group gameplay are a massive problem. And it gets extreme once those guys begin to use these chars for PvP as well, using Drone-Assits setups, Stormbringers or masses of bricktanked DPS spammers.
My personal intentions wouldnât be to limit multiple accounts for multiple purposes, but limiting how many accounts can be effectively played at the same time for the same content.
Oh I could, rest assured. And I honestly wouldnât care if a part of the players would quit over the nerf of their personal 10-account-armies. Let them. The goal is to make the game more attractive for the casual player and smaller groups, to enalbe grassroot growh again. You simply need to cut off the most foul branches so the tree can grow again. Massmultiboxing - not multiboxing! - is one of those branches
And rest assured, especially stuff like ârenting empiresâ can be very easily prevented by limiting force projection. Nobody pays you rent if you canât come over to defend him. And you wonât come over if it takes you an hour to send a fleet to his system just because some 10 man roaming gang shows up and steals this guys ESS bounties or prevent him from running sites or mining. He would be stupid to pay you and you would be stupid to bind yourself to so much effort, which usually results in absolutely no fun and just 2x30 minutes travel time without a single kill. In the worst case you get ambushed by traveling and lose a whole fleet for nothing. Renting is dead once geograpy matters again, because people would simply need to defend locally instead of relying on some big empire that promises protection.
