Well, I think in any situation where you are talking about the need for a game buff or nerf, it is incumbent upon you to demonstrate your claim. Words are meaningless, log in and play the game. If you think multiboxing is so overpowered, prove your case and make it apparent. Otherwise, you are just complaining about something that someone else is doing, but since you don’t do it yourself, you can’t actually judge whether they are engaging in skillful gameplay.
I do. Don’t worry, I play quite a lot. EVE is a great game, but it has it’s flaws.
Again: I don’t need to drink poison to prove it is poisenous. I hate massmultiboxing because I am convinced it makes EVE a very unpopular game with a pretty bad reputation. This claim is based on personal experience, many talks to people who did quit or people who tried the game and didn’t stay. And some experice with game design and game balance in the past.
The idea “yeah but you must do it yourself to prove it” is utterly stupid, sorry. There are many things in EVE I’d like to see nerfed or buffed because I think they aren’t particulary well designed, that doesn’t mean I need to do all those things myself. I mean, I am pretty convinced that poison is… poisonous, but I wouldn’t drink it to “prove” that.
I certainly disagree.
You claim that doing this would give you untold powers, you would be invincible, a giant striding amongst mere mortals - but for some reason you refrain from doing it, my theory is that you don’t do it because in practice it’s a lot harder than you claim. So it comes down to a question of skill. You claim mass multiboxing does not require skill, but the only way to demonstrate that is for you to do it yourself.
The EVE client is a program running on a PC, it can absolutely uniquely identify that machine. Hardware fingerprinting combined with kernel-access (which could be easily enforced) makes this non-circumventable for 99.9% of the playerbase.
You seem to greatly underestimate the tech expertise of the playerbase, so no it would get defeated almost instantly, not to mention the client still runs under linux just fine so yeah, also, thats the CLIENT not the SERVER, so as i said, the SERVER does not recognise hardware, it recognises clients
And as always: the overwhelming majority would simply stop doing it because it would be forbidden and you risk losing all of your accounts if you get caught.
Yes that clearly stops the massive paid markets for cheats in games, it not being allowed and being bannable, we clearly have no cheating going on in any other games that already do that
Yeah you see how pointless of an argument that actually is? especially in a game where you can literally just insert your credit card to get ISK
I am totally open about the fact that this change would short-term of course cost money
Its not just short term, its long term, those players aren’t coming back, and you aren’t going to replace them with new players because the rate of new players joining to leaving isn’t going to be high enough, this change would be permanent and you wouldn’t be able to undo the damage caused
The goal is to increase the currently awful reputation of the product EVE Online
Yeah multiboxing isn’t what is causing that reputation, the game is what is causing that, nobody with an IQ above room temp in Celsius is going to care about multiboxers, by your own admission they make up such a tiny single digit number of the population that most people will never even encounter one, let alone be impacted by one
They are not the issue you seem to think they are
and growing unique player numbers.
Bwahahahahaha, its cute that you think that would happen, EVE as a game does not and will never appeal to the masses, as a result there is only a small pool of players from which to draw, while there is a steady influx of new players there is just as steady a decrease in veterans, and then we have the new players who join and then never actually stick the landing and hang around, and again, 99% of the newbros who try to start playing EVE will NOT encounter a multiboxer, so that isn’t even a factor in why they are not hanging around
The balance has to be found that the APM required for basic activities is achievable for a casual player doing it solo conveniently, but becoming stressful once you add more accounts.
Doesn’t actually exist, anything that can be done comfortably at the lowest levels can be easily boxed by anyone with experience on a larger scale, there isn’t really any way to properly balance that without negatively impacting it at the normal levels
Absolutely not, you simply lack creativity.
Its because i don’t lack creativity that i understand the wider impact of these absolutely terrible design choices you think will save the game, once you gain some experience feel free to get back to us
Let me correct you: that was your idea not mine. I never said anything about IP adresses.
Because that is the only way the server currently identifies clients, so the only way for the server itself to limit connections is to impose them by IP address, which is also easily bypassed
Mass multiboxing ruins the reputation of the game
Citation needed
You keep claiming this to be true but have never once proven it to actually be the case, so cite me some reputable 3rd party sources with evidence demonstrating that new players are avoiding the game specifically because of multiboxers, because anything that could be attributed to a multiboxer can also be attributed to a fleet of players 1 boxer with 10 ships is functionally no different to 10 players with 10 ships, its still 10 ships on the field
Try to surround yourself with different people then.
I’ve already been around with near enough every group of people the game has to offer at this point, all the way from living in low sec to fighting empire wars, to being part of null to being part of numerous NPSI fleets to doing all sorts of high/low/null content
Nothing really changes natural human behaviour, people want to be part of the winning team and they will pick fights they are more likely to win than to lose, basic human nature right there
Oh yeah sure, if the game mechanics dictate it, it is going to happen.
Except they won’t because the mechanics you propose will never actually be done because they do not improve anything
The point is, CCP/FC has to offer them fun to play the game without needing to hold hundreds of systems
And what if holding that empire IS the fun?
The changes that are coming are a clear sign that the devs have at least recognized that there is a problem and as I have heard, even most of the CSM agrees with it. Time will tell if they are willing to push the buttons hard enough.
The force projection changes aren’t really going to have the impact they think it will, it will just result in more consolidation, instead of 4 small blocs you end up with 2 larger blocs etc
Static jump bridges aren’t the only means of force projection and there is realistically nothing you can do about the other methods that already exist in the form of standard cyno’s and bridges/conduits
And the flip side of that is now you just make it so you’re catching even less targets as more people will have to rely on leaving alts in highway bottlenecks that will see you coming 10 jumps out instead you being able to appear in their space to fight them in the first place, all you do is run in to a blob that has time to form to counter whatever you have
And even if you could undo all of those, you wouldn’t actually want to go back to that state, sure the game felt bigger, but it also felt more lifeless
Ultimately you are free to wish for whatever changes you want, but the reality of the matter is that killing off multiboxing doesn’t improve things and only serves to hurt the game and reduce the amount of money coming in, like it or not that is reality and that will not change
Exactly, thats why my initial statement was
It is all a pure hypothetical scenario in which I would re-design the game in a shape and form I personally consider attractive. I am totally aware that this collides with many other viewpoints, but I also know there are many people in the game sharing my points of view. So, maybe you are right and it wouldn’t be successful, maybe I am right and it would lead to a more attractive game that can actually grow again (in unique player numbers). We won’t find out, because it will in fact never happen, if simply for the fact that I don’t even apply for the job.
You may find all that stupid, ridiculous or even hurtful for the game, no problem with that. your opinion is yours and mine is mine. And like I won’t convince you, you don’t convince me either. Have a nice day. ![]()
