The Real Victim of Ganking? The Ganker

I still see it being employed against miners. Some people use it to intimidate people into buying mining permits or seem to really enjoy seeing how far they can punt barges by ramming them with hopped up stabbers.

It might be fun to be so annoying to people that they pay you to leave them alone.

in that case it’s more they are annoyed of the warp out and warp back then actualy intimidation

Real Highsec players already adapted with suicide Ganking mechanics. Those cats doesn’t drop on you with its blasters range magically. The whiners are coming from Nullsec.

I think you are largely correct with this.

The statement — “It might be fun to be so annoying to people that they pay you to leave them alone.” — suggests a mindset driven by manipulation, provocation, and attention-seeking. It could be consistent with traits found in the following personality disorders:

1. Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)

  • Key traits: Disregard for others’ rights, deceitfulness, impulsivity, manipulativeness, lack of remorse.
  • Why it fits: Deliberately being annoying to provoke others and gain money shows exploitation and a lack of empathy — hallmarks of ASPD.

2. Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)

  • Key traits: Grandiosity, need for admiration, sense of entitlement, exploitation of others.
  • Why it fits: The idea of people paying you just to go away might feed into a narcissist’s belief that they’re important enough to provoke that kind of reaction.

3. Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD)

  • Key traits: Excessive attention-seeking, superficial emotions, dramatic behavior.
  • Why it fits: Someone with HPD might see this tactic as a way to command attention, even through negative means.

4. Sadistic Personality Traits (not an official DSM diagnosis, but sometimes discussed)

  • Key traits: Enjoyment of causing discomfort, humiliation, or distress in others.
  • Why it fits: Taking pleasure in being annoying or extracting money through irritation aligns closely with sadistic tendencies.

TL;DR:

The most likely match is Antisocial Personality Disorder, with possible overlaps into Narcissistic or Histrionic traits depending on the motive (control vs. admiration vs. attention).

The “intimidation” comes not from destruction, but just being annoying and wasting the miners time, and seemingly enjoying it.

Exactly! That is how bullying works.

Yes, all of the above (it’s bern previously established that EVE contains a disproportionate number of these personality types.

Can you give an example please?

That’s because permanent bumping was an exploit. It doesn’t generate a suspect flag when it clearly should. It had to be nerfed. Hell, change it back but make it generate a suspect flag. I’m good with that. I’ll pop your ship with my drones.

I always just assumed most suicide gankers were just alts of bored nullsec miners. A lil fun to pass the time that also in a round about way whittles at competition.

Not allowing alpha accounts to go red, as an example.

You give yourself another example.

Free? One person creating ten free accounts to interfere with the games of players with paid subscriptions? You don’t know that this isn’t a free game? CCP likes to make money. This game isn’t free to run.

That isn’t a nerf to PvP. You can still create ten accounts. You just have to shell out the cash. PvP still exists.

Free accounts don’t deserve special favors. They’re trial accounts only.

You asked for an example.
I gave you two examples so far.
Not allowing free accounts to go red prevents them from attacking people. Preventing someone from doing something is a pretty big nerf.

The term “nerf” doesn’t not mean that it is prevented, only that it is less effective or limited. The fact ganking is still possible does not mean that it has not been nerfed. Forcing someone to pay money for something that was once free is absolutely a nerf to it.

They nerfed alpha. They did not nerf PvP.

They nerfed the trial account because it doesn’t deserve special favors. Otherwise, I should be able to have 10 Lokis on an Alpha account to defend against all the free PvP destroyers trying to blow up my Omega ship. See the problem here? Free accounts don’t deserve PvP.

You can still gank with an alpha using smartbombs.
