This was a bad idea--I didn't know what I was talking about--please delete this

Hey everyone I’m still fairly new at this so let me know if I made any mistakes here… (My first post was an off topic comment… an issue that I later corrected when I actually found the new thread button.)

But I just wanted to ask has anybody else had a thread that was starting to get attention before they were told it needed to be moved and not afterward? I guess this kind of correlates to an illegally placed billboard that more people are interested in in the place where it’s not allowed to be. XD

My other thread was about an idea I had for an Alpha-accessible feature involving custom made ships constructed from the wreckage of other specific ship hulls (I go into greater detail in my other thread). Originally I had placed it under the wrong category without realizing and it got a lot more attention there (and several posts by a few interested people)–until I relocated it to the proper category at the advice of a more experienced forum user. Oh well.

But here’s the big question: Even if a bunch of people decide they like your idea how does it get noticed by the devs?

Someone who responded to my other thread said that that if I could fly over to the fan fest and bribe one of them, that it may just work, but they would still probably make it an Omega only feature…

What if even worse they notice your idea and say something like, “we’ll get back to you,” Or “hmm, sounds interesting” and then never do anything?

Either way, I guess that if they’re not doing anything, then all of us could start saying that if they don’t do anything, all the alts are about to start supporting somebody else (until they notice)… But then that could lead to a retaliatory and tragic mass elimination of all the poor alts who weren’t even asked as to what their opinion on the matter was…

I mean seriously what are we, the EVE Online community, actually going to do to try to get our new ideas for the game noticed?

If we all got behind an idea we could collectively threaten something harmless but annoying like “we’re going to cover your entire HQ in spray cheese if you do nothing,” but at that point, the community might as well elect a representative (via everybody except for one person backing up simultaneously when a volunteer is asked for) and then have them just walk in the front door with a big suitcase full of all the money that it otherwise would have cost to buy all that spray cheese

(Please do not quote me on that, I think that’s a really really bad idea in reality–the first part, not the second  )

And that second part about the “volunteer” representative with a big suitcase of money brings us right back to the advice that I was given…

So I’m pretty much out of ideas other than all of us just keep posting repeatedly about whatever idea we all decide we like until it’s noticed.

By the way if anybody has a thread of theirs that was relocated, but that was actually getting positive attention before it was, You can post a link to it in this thread :slightly_smiling_face:

Here’s mine: Custom ships made from wreckage

How do you get your idea noticed? Head to the “Official” EVE Forums on Reddit…

I guess I’ll have to investigate further… Most of the stuff here except for my story about my relocated thread was a joke though XD

But I was serious when I said that anyone who has a thread of their own that was getting positive attention before it was relocated can post a link to it in this thread

Arthur is correct. You can go to Reddit or Discord ( if you like shady platforms ), as these are the only platforms of choice FC interacts with ( here you only get moderator/“community” staff ).

Some general advice:

  1. Post in the correct subforum. In the case of game ideas, Player Features & Ideas is the correct subforum. However, also recognize that not everyone reads that subforum. (Mostly because of the low ratio of good ideas to bad).
  2. Post concisely. Organize your ideas and don’t ramble. Short, concise posts get read more often than long, rambling ones. This goes as well for titles of threads.
  3. Be realistic in your expectations. FC devs are not lingering in the forums, waiting to read your ideas and crank out new code. Official feedback is rare, and game changes take time, sometimes years.
  4. Be humble. Assuming you’re posting with your main (which, IMO, you should always), you’ve been playing EVE for less than three years. EVE has been around for 23 years, and it’s one of (if not, the most) complicated MMOs out there. I’ve been playing for over 16 years, and there are many aspects of the game that I’m still not an expert on. Always keep in mind that your “great idea” might not actually be so great. Not because you’re stupid or uncreative, but because you don’t know what you don’t know. Maybe your “great idea” is unrealistic or would break things in ways you don’t have the experience to foresee?
  5. Silence indicates disinterest or disagreement. If no one responds to your post, it’s probably not because the post didn’t get noticed, but rather because it wasn’t engaging, interesting, or deemed worthy of discussion. Or, people just flat out disagree and don’t feel like arguing about it. That’s harsh, and no one likes to see their post ignored, but just learn from your mistakes and do better next time.

Thanks for your advice, I’ll keep it in mind.

One other thing, separate from general forum advice. EVE is not a charity. It’s a subscription game, run by a for-profit company (FC). Like any company, when they do listen, it’s primarily to their paying customers.

Omegas are the customers. Alpha accounts are loss leaders. You’re probably not going to get too far going to any company and telling them how they can do more for you when you’re already a debit on their balance sheet.

Yeah, I get it. I guess the only way that it would be alpha-accessible is if the omega-accessible version of the feature is much better in a few ways… or the alpha version is nerfed

What makes you think it should?

Fenris sometimes ask for feedback/ideas in the form of player surveys. They’re not really scouring the forums for ideas from players. Usually such ideas are all over the place and incompatible with the game conceptually. Even if Fenris was looking for ideas here, they would go to the proper subsection on the forums to do it, which is where your other thread was directed to.

If your goal is to change the game, you should apply for a job at Fenris rather than waste your time thinking you’ve come up with the next best thing everybody in the game wants.

I wasn’t saying just my idea, I was saying any idea in general when I made this thread.

I wasn’t addressing your aforementioned idea, and this isn’t the thread to discuss it (your other thread is).

I’m just telling you, in general, an Alpha player going to FC and asking for features is like Oliver Twist holding out a bowl and asking, “Please, sir. Can I have some more?”

All right, I guess I’ll shut up then. I’ll see if any of the Omega players I know like my idea and if not, I’ll stop talking about " trying to convince someone to add it" all together.

But still, anyone else out there who has a relocated thread that was getting attention before it was moved can still post links to their other threads here

So you still want to use this forum subsection for the threads that belong somewhere else?

No I was just saying use this thread to share a link to something else you were hoping would be noticed. It’s not like this thread becomes the other threads. In place of the illegally placed billboard, this becomes a map to find all the other billboards after they were relocated. (To use my analogy from earlier)

There already is a map to find the other threads – it’s called ‘Player Features and Ideas’. Open to everyone to find. Such duplicate threading/linking is just spam at the end of the day and you won’t be making any friends by engaging in such forum behavior.

No one needs you to index the forums.

FYI: You’re tapping dancing on my ignore button. I advise you quit while you’re still ahead.

I’m sorry I was just thinking that people weren’t visiting certain threads because of the categories they were under…

Never mind then. Is there any way I can delete a thread that I created?

Change the title to: "Stupid thread, please delete" and a moderator will oblige.

Sorry, I’m very new at this, and I’m probably going to delete this thread (and maybe even the other one I created) if I can figure out how. I just thought I was offering a way to help other newcomers like me who hadn’t gotten the hang of using the forums yet. Who here thinks I should get rid of both of my threads?

Okay, I guess I’ll do that after the next person finishes their reply.

(edit) sorry, make that the next few people.
