We already had Mining dominance with the Rorquals of 10 years ago. It was disastrous for the game and should NEVER be repeated.
Would need to be balanced of course, but think of the fun that could be had.
It was balanced by removing pretty much most of the yield of Rorquals and putting the Rorquals in a support role to make the other mining ships relevant again.
Dyver’s concern is right, ‘Bigger mining ships’ are most likely just going to repeat the Rorqual mistake.
Mining is in a pretty good spot. Introduction of higher yield bigger mining ships just pushes the payout for all other mining ships down and makes them less relevant as the new ship takes that role. Ironically adding mining ships like that reduces the diversity of mining ships.
Give them something special to mine, doomsday a big veldspar rock field and fracture it into diffferent minerals that can then be mined by hulks
Give them the ability to doomsday to ‘upgrade’ the ore, fire the doomsday at a cheap rock, boom rock has 20% chance to stay the same, 70 chance to have increased yeild of a higher tier (the doomsday fused the rock into something else). 10% chance to find a gold rush rock thats worth 10x the value.

We have already done something similar enough to this to know that it is bad and stupid.
So are you suggesting players should be able to increase the supply of ore far beyond what the game offers us?
This would be a balancing nightmare. And if it stacks and allows multiple such ‘doomsdays’ to continuously increase ore supply further it’s also an economic nightmare where amount of ore mined is no longer limited by supply, but merely by ‘how many mining ships can we multibox’.
It seems to be. I wouldn’t mind seeing a buff to the mining hold side and/or some new modules to expand mining hold size.
While I realize that the Porpoise, Orca and Rorqual are designed with a support role in-mind, I think that to encourage more active play they should each receive a pair of turret slots with ice and ore bonuses.
