Titles for Good Fights

Now that EVE has achievements and titles, would something like titles for bringing good fights be possible? This is one idea I had to do it, maybe others can think of a better way:

First, whether a fight was a good fight is not something that can be determined by an algorithm or database query alone, but if we were to ask the participants and they all agreed it was a good fight then it was one. In practice it could be enough to just ask the loser of the fight, since in most cases their opinion would be pivotal I think.

This could be done by including a checkbox on each lossmail titled “This was a good fight”. If the player ticks the box then that decides the matter. If nothing else this would provide some useful data for the game developers.

Second, the points awarded for the good fight would go to the winners of the fight, those who appear on the killmail, weighted by damage done perhaps, and numbered in proportion to the net economic loss caused. I.e. Value of ship/modules/cargo destroyed minus insurance payout. Say one point per million ISK destroyed.

When a character has enough points they can claim a title, which they can choose to display or not, as with other titles. Maybe displaying the title would help get more good fights, who knows?

In short, to get a title you need to win fights where your opponent has enough fun to consider it a good fight despite their loss. (Or kill your own alts, like with any other contest in EVE.)

Achievements which are more easily completed by cooperatively ‘fighting’ an alt or friend than to find a real adversary are badly designed achievements.

Your achievement is an example.

I don’t think we need more such achievements. The rewards for PvP should be the loot you get from killing them.

In EVE a “good fight” is usually something that happens when you have miscalculated before you got into the fight. I don’t know if that says something favorable for your skills.

Also people just never think their proposals through from all sides. They usually forget the most basic malicious exploit, which specifically in a game like EVE, is something you should never forget to think about.

The same goes for the whole “achievement” system itself. So @Anka_Outamon wants to hand out free intel to everyone interested about his fighting habits? Preferably more like “low sec fighter”, “wormhole fighter”, “blinky fitting ship user”, “super/cap pilot” and whatnot?

I would still like to turn the whole system off. It is no ones business how many points i have at all. No one should know if i undock or not.

Are we doing it for “titles”? Looks like title is a spoiler for an enemy.

Once it gets tied to some type of a reward, be it a material thing or a ‘title’, the system will be exploited. Now, instead of clicking ‘fight was good’ when it was the case, participants won’t do it, in order to deny the other party the reward.

It will never work. Players play the system, they don’t use it honorably.

No, thanks.
We already have enough data collected on us everywhere. Not everything has to be data-driven. Some things have to unfold organically. Do your own scouting and work, maybe you’ll get an edge over your enemies.

This.

Instead of a measure of a good fight, it would become part of the meta game in EVE. Deny calling good fights good fights to stab your enemy one last time, or call a self-attack against an alt in a corvette a ‘good fight’ to gain an easy title.

Either way it is not going to measure ‘good fights’.
