To be or not to be

EVE can be player solo perfectly well. I’m a solo player actually because I simpl y don’t have the time for fleets and can only sporadically play. And still all I do is PvP.

This is reason #4 for why people play MMO solo, as expressed in this video. This is also proposed by the same presenter as being a reason why designers of MMO games should still incorporate some ability to play solo in their games.

Which by definition is not playing solo. You are relying on the existence of other players to provide you with content. This, somewhat ironically, and also despite the protestations of @MIssy_Aggrevation (in another thread) that players cannot provide content. However, unlike PVE which is provided by the game designers, your playing solo depends on the availability of others to be hunted and die (or in my case, run away) .

Where is your evidence, or at least numbers?

Slightly unfair question, because the presenter in this video did present ten reasons why people play MMOs alone yet I am not aware that he rated which one was the biggest?

However, you are now suggesting that reason #4 (lack of time) is the biggest reason? And you might well be correct. I would just like to know what evidence you are using.

There is plenty of things in EVE you can do solo. I would say even the majority of content is doable solo while in most other games you have to team up at some point to progress. In EVE you are free to do whatever you want.

Yes it is still solo play. Yes the targets are other players, but that is not the point. The point is that I don’t have to team up at a certain time with other people I know to play the game.

There is actually a thing called solo PvP. CCP Rise famously played this way as kil2 by roaming solo in nullsed before he joined CCP. So can we stop discussing semantics here, this is a well established term.

solo =/= isolated
