Now watch CCP still go ahead with this, despite the obvious disapprovalโ€ฆ

Any last crumbs of faith I had with this company has gone right to the shitter.

โ– โ– โ– โ–  Them.

The thing theyโ€™re probably counting on is being able to soak this for as long as they can. Even if it gets pulled into courts, lawyers have a good habit of drawing things out for a good long while before they have to take any action.

Wow, Sol, you couldnโ€™t come more off as a blatantly racist person.

The test server functions as a platform to test new mechanics. The forum is the test bed for moral implications, among other things. The list of objections and observations is long and most have been mentioned by other posters. My main objection (morals about gambling aside, but those are personal and not all-important) is the following:

The opportunistic approach of charging real money for something which should be an in-game player activity in the Sandbox-Without-Too-Many-Rules - if you consider that activity acceptable in the first place - is for me the most mind boggling aspect of this HyperBet plan.

I understand the game developer needs income. And as long as paying real money also results in permanent โ€˜benefitsโ€™ (even from vanity items like monocles, sleeve tattoos, injectors and ship skins) it is perfectly justifiable. But this goes a lot further than the Monocle Gate ever did.

Bottom line: sell your HyperBetThingies for New Eden ISK instead of real world currency and most will be forgiven.

They should just drop the ball and close the game down if they no longer can afford it, instead subjecting the vulnerable to predatory behavior.

Itโ€™s not about being able to afford it, CCP was sold to PA for a set amount of money along with a bonus contingent on them keeping or increasing revenue for a specific amount of time. So in order to get that big payday bonus, theyโ€™re going to pull out all the stops and try everything they can to make that happen. Even if everything flops, it doesnโ€™t matter because they already got their money and are now just looking to get that extra bonus pay.

Yes, in effect the gameโ€™s already dead, albeit in life support, and the plugโ€™s just about to fall off the wall โ€ฆ

The disapproval of a tiny minority of the Eve community - those who a) can read and write English, b) can be bothered with not only reading but contributing to this (usually toxic) forum, and c) who give a toss about this particular subject anyway.

Do you still actually play Eve ? If yes, then why do you bother as (according to you) itโ€™s about to die horribly; if no then whatโ€™s it got to do with you anyway ?

Been around since 2007.

Safe to say Iโ€™ve seen my share of the highs and falls that CCPโ€™s capable of.

This last one tops it all and Iโ€™ve no quarrel voicing it.

Note that youโ€™re posting in a thread with the numbers given at the top. 247 votes atm, 50% are โ€˜Strongly disapproveโ€™, 15% are โ€˜rather disapproveโ€™, so thatโ€™s a 2/3 disapproval rate among forum voters.

(Disclaimers for โ€œI personally donโ€™t care either way, theyโ€™ve exaggerated the issue, itโ€™s all alts, forumites arenโ€™t the player baseโ€ etc. etc. The numbers are still pretty clear. Just CCP being CCP. โ€œHey we need money, letโ€™s piss off 2/3 of our player base again!โ€)

Wow, I wasnโ€™t aware that eve online only had 250 players!

CCP didnt say in the blog how you would โ€œbuyโ€ these hypernodes. Im going to assume its something like plex and not just seeded.

and the system also sounds like a ticket random drawing system aswell.

The main reason we got rid of all the gambling was due to EU laws that were coming around about โ€œadvertisingโ€ gambling to under age people. from the regulations you wouldnโ€™t even be able to play a stand-alone game about poker that has 0 access to internet. Even loot boxes where you have to buy the keys to unlock them were hit and so on. However CCP also saw it as the chance to hit RMT from players and the casinos we had.

Your words mean nothing unless you can provide the actual law.

unfortunately i am not a EU citizen so the only thing i can get is what the internet provides on things.

highlights loot boxes and other forms such as a poker game you may have on your phone.

โ€œWe are increasingly concerned with the risks being posed by the blurring of lines between gambling and other forms of digital entertainment such as video gaming,โ€ the statement reads. โ€œConcerns in this area have manifested themselves in controversies relating to skin betting, loot boxes, social casino gaming and the use of gambling themed content within video games available to children.โ€

upon discussion of this last year many games had to change things regarding stuff like loot boxes if they wanted to stay in the EU market. Eve itself dropped all casinos we had along with hitting many players that had use a casino that also had participated in RMT.

is a PDF that is written by the EU gambling commissions that dictate specific understandings for how many of the anti-gambling laws are applied by. some of it is similar to when the US took a stance to advertising smoking to miners by not using Catoon characters.

im also currently looking for the Dev blog i know they made stating they were doing it because of the EU law. i hate searching dev blogs, last time i did it they deleted half the blog where they were annoucing theyโ€™d make omega balanced by only using 1 account.

Sure, but these address things that are not the same as the Hypernet Relay.

People do not spend money on the Hypernet Relay. In fact, you donโ€™t have to spend any money at all to participate.

Compare that with loot boxes, which you often buy directly with money.

Weโ€™re also not talking about gambling where the goods can be exchanged for real money.

Like, itโ€™s cute to try and draw these lines because itโ€™s gambling related, but itโ€™s not really gambling.

in the pdf and other things they mention other types of games that only have a virtual currency.

they are using a hammer to kill a fly by banning anything with gambling rather it has real money tied to it or not simply because it advertises it to a population of people that per the pdf apparently underage is 25 and under.

they are saying playing a poker game that only uses virtual currency and has no connection to your bank account is basically a gateway much like how people claim weed is a gateway to harder drugs.

Also from what i read so far on Hypernet Relay, CCP didnt say how we acquire them in the blog. are they going to be like injectors? where you need plex to claim them from the NES? or seeded on the market and just drop isk for it?

Just ignore that idiot. He is just posting the same troll shite on every thread โ€œshow me the lawโ€ etc and people do, then he denies it and so on. Itโ€™s just lame, no-effort trolling so ypu may as well just move on.

As for the cores, they will ONLY be available to originate from the NES for money or PLEX bought for money. This is where the problem for them is - it is dependent on real money to initiate each โ€œraffleโ€. Yes some will turn up on the market BUT only after they have been first purchased from the NES and are put on the market as re-sale items.
