I only know two dudes in CODE, one I’ve just briefly met on comms during a roam, he seemed to be pretty chill all the time, but also was only a brief encounter, so I can only speak for one dude I personally know. Most of the “toxic” things he says IG are just him roleplaying. On comms he’s super likable, does not give a ■■■■ about losing even expensive stuff and always wants to take every fight he can get. Risk-averse: 0! He’s not especially talented in PvP but I’d say he’s having a lot more fun in PvP then the tryhards (amongst which I count myself).
You know, the first response from vets to newbies when they complain is “This is not the game for you” because EvE players feel a sense of superioriority from the rest of the gaming community. The end result is that the newbies take their advice and leave.
That superiority used to be well-founded. Then CCP started targeting people of inferior intellectuality, while simultaneously dumbing the game down.
I only have this one at hands. it’s quite insulting and too many people don’t seem to understand the issue.
Well, that’s just the most recent pinnacle of their advertising efforts… The dumbing down started a few years ago.
Holy ■■■■.
Just saw this… this is wrong on so many levels that it hurts me.
I was about to say this is a crime against general marketing rules and you should send the person who did this on a course about fitting ships and then about marketing in general.
But then I realized it’s only a snipped of the page, removing context and by this only tells half the truth.
The rest of it looks like this:
Link: https://secure.eveonline.com/starterpacks/
With that text above it actually makes sense and doesn’t appear to treat you like a complete idiot.
The whole picture is not really bad. But you really need the context.
“Explode onto the New Eden scene”
Sounds about right.
Offtopic, I hate marketers/advertisers with a burning passion.
Am I toxic?
No, you’re a sane human being. There aren’t a lot of those anymore.
Believe me, the context does not make it any better. I’ll break this down.
All their ads promise power, or superiority. All of them. I don’t know how long back this goes, but the first time I have in memory was the pancake battleship.
What they do, is advertising for people with inferiority issues. They advertise to escapists, and totalitarian mindsets. Irrational morons who are the victims of decades of stupidifying by neglecting education everywhere in the west. People who have nothing inside and need to compensate by playing characters in a virtual world.
“two battle-ready frigates”, “fit for the serious pilot”, “better equipped”, “set your path to destiny”, "enough riches in PLEX to reach … adventure, “PLEX is power”, “purchase … to fulfil your greatest potential”, “your desired character”.
Not sure if talking about this so openly might not get me banned, maybe take a screenshot of it. I’m sure I will.
Do you know who the target audience is? The totalitarian carebears. The people who have nothing inside and mistake the game for real life. They are NOT (!!!) roleplayers, they actually see their characters as extensions of themselves, which is the reason why they behave how they behave. Why they mistake suicide gankers as the sociopaths they themselves actually are (more accurate would be calling most of them actual psychopaths), why they take everything personally, why they believe that honour has any value in here, etc.
They can not comprehend that a game is a game, because they have never learned to rationally differentiate between the real world and their feelings. Everything that affects their feelings is real, therefore this game is real, therefore suicide gankers are monsters, therefore afk cloakers are evil and prevent them from pressing the undock button.
And that’s the future of this game and western society. The root, btw, are the US of A. You can believe that, or not, call me a racist (lol I had USAmericans call me racist for making jokes about them), whatever, but this is all based on my ongoing research about wtf is going on in the world and EVE ONLINE is perfect for learning about it.
This ad is a tiny representative of the dystopian nightmare we’re already living in, in real life.
Im so glad Im old enough to have played UO back in the day, and experienced the internet as it was back then.
But im also so sad to see how it has fallen since then.
Hope the pendulum swings back to HTFU, sooner rather than later.
Fking normies…
Did you see who just won the Nobel Prize for Economics and what his expertise/subject was that earned him the award?
That’s not going to happen, unless the people initiate a cultural shift. The problem is politics and money. There are seriously big companies behind these SJWesque kind of people, including the BBC, Sony (USA, at least), Disney, Hollywood as a whole and others, but I haven’t yet made a list. They’ve even pushed youtube into this narrative.
We live in a time, where “you have to be the change you want to see in the world” is an actual thing, but people are so infected by the idea that their opinions have any meaning, that this simply isn’t going to happen. Plus, most people have no ■■■■■■■ clue about the actual enemy here and they happily refuse to listen to people who do.
This whole topic isn’t just about the game, it’s actually about “1984”. I wish i was kidding. Whenever you see a toxic carebear, it’s the equivalent to HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. Watching the movies (the classic, or new one) or reading the book will help understanding this.
No! I don’t follow this anymore.
I could google, but I refuse even looking for it.
Care to share?
Oh and … related:
You worry too much.
There are more people “clued in” to this than you think.
They just remain largely silent or approach the issue from tangents and thus you may not be aware of them.
You are not as alone in your thinking as you think you are.
You know you are literally the crazy tin foil hat guy right now who has gone so far down the rabbit hole that he no longer has any idea what real human beings are like or how they think?
Trust me, I bought that starter pack, and not a thing you believe it says about me or anyone else that bought it is the case. You are wrong by such a colossal degree that it’s both insulting and an indication of exactly how far gone you are.
I actually find it hard to believe you’re not trolling, but I think in your head you genuinely believe this world view you have created.
Fascinating really.
Same could be said of you.
Oh no I don’t. The biggest problem is people who believe that it’s not as bad as I think. Most people seriously underestimate how many of these people actually exist and how bad the situation has become.
It doesn’t matter if I’m alone, or not. What matters is that no one is doing anything about it.
‘No u’ is not much of a counter. 1/10 for trying … I guess?
Not that I’m going to argue with you or anyone else that wants to fabricate massive conspiracy theories around a small ad for a bit of PLEX and a couple of ships in a game. I have no intention of jumping down the rabbit hole after the mad hatter.
Thank you for sharing that you are so self centered, that you think that just because you’re not the target audience, automatically means that no one else is.
Apparently you think that ads are just ads, and that there is not a shred of science behind this, while big companies spend billions on research that aims to make people want and buy things.
Let’s also ignore all the thousands of MMOs that target these people specifically. I guess they all don’t exist, right? Damn, you’re so smart. I should throw away my years of research, because obviously you, who spent thirty seconds on the topic, definitely know better.
