Your zkill is a reeal profile in courage. Took a lot of skill to lock, scram, and shoot a guy who can’t fight back, right?
Wow, you did it with only 130 people, that’s reeeeeeeal PvP.

Well that Tristan could have deployed some serious murder drones so they had to make sure none of them get hurt by it by calling in the cavalry first.
Or maybe the pilot already left in a pod leaving behind the abandoned Tristan and they wanted to make most out of it by all getting on the killmail.
Wow, there has been a lot of activity since I’ve last been online. Most of it off topic unfortunately. Seems to have turned into a “What’s real PVP” discussion. It’s been a fun read though. I will say that.
I think the what I’ve taken from this “on topic” is that your really have to make your own goals in EVE. And maybe that’s what I’m growing weary of. I’m a casual gamer and maybe I need a little more structure to keep me interested. Maybe if there were level 5, 6, 7, etc missions you could run solo. instead of stopping at 4 and then transitioning to small group in level 5 (I guess you could solo lvl 5s but you would really be a sitting duck in a BS in low sec space). Maybe if there were more epic arcs. But being that EVE is primarily a PvP game, CCP has no need to move in that direction.
I’m also seeing how seriously people take this game. I’ve been reading other topics in the forums and the dedication to this game is crazy. I really play video games for the same reasons I watch films, read books, listen to music, etc. For enjoyment… Having several accounts, bots, crying over getting killed and loosing a ship, application procedures for Corps… It’s a little over the top for me.
Sounds almost like having a second job. I retired because I was tired of working one job…
@Maximus_Raaz I am solo and alpha. I did join up with a mining corp but all they want to do is moon mining. They seem to be dead now, although I see person online once in a while, no one talks. So I won’t tell you to join a corp, buy omega, git gud, etc…
To paraphrase the writer Paul from the Bible you need to work out your own salvation. My way is not the only way… I am Amarrian after all and not some wayist Caldri.
I started by mining ores (alt character) and then got some wormhole gas for profit. Too much work in my opinion. I tried my hand as truck driver and while I never lost a major load, working out the logistics of the route, and flying the long routes, is just boring as sin. One of my other characters, I trained to be a bad ass killer, also too much work and combat doesn’t thrill me. So you want to know;
A. Should you continue playing Eve Online?
I seldom do. I come in just to check what I have sold on the market. I basically just buy and sell here. Eve Online isn’t much other than Prosperous Universe with a fancy 3D screen saver. There isn’t anyone to chat or joke with anywhere you go. Local chat is a dead duck, unless you are into reading spam. Join any channel and talk off topic the moderators hammer you. I got told to stay on topic just because I said, Hello. I wouldn’t call Eve Online the most social game with the chat system and corporation structure. To paraphrase what Hamlet said, To play or not to play, that is the question? You need to come to the obvious answer on your own. I am here, I don’t define this as playing the game.
B. Is there a reason to play Eve Online?
No. As with all games, they are just something to fill up time spent elsewhere. I played some other games that I found just as much of a diversion. Some I spend money on them and others I do not. I won’t recommend any titles to you ( Prosperous Universe was NOT a recommendation ), since I don’t know your likes and dislikes, but you can find other online space MMOs.
To sum this up, only you can validate your reasons to play Eve Online.
The usual bunch of NPC Richards still polluting the forum I see.
Mr Epeen
The usual bunch of NPC Richards??? Please explain
Thanks for the input. My major issue is I’m currently using a Mac for gaming. As I mentioned before, I’m retired and currently traveling and chose to bring a Mac more for portability and battery life. And as it’s Apple Silicon I can’t Bootcamp Windows. So I don’t have many options for good games and EVE happens to be a great game. To your point, only I can decide. I guess I was hoping that there was a bunch of content I’m interested in that I just didn’t know about. Like my previous post, Tougher solo missions, more epic arcs. Along those lines. That’s why I started the post. The self motivation aspect is something I’ve enjoyed for several years and I loved playing the EVE my way. Kind of an Escape Velocity with more risks. As it is a sandbox, It’s been great.
I hoped Abysmal Deadspace would be a fun option, but I’m having issues with the game crashing between room jumps and when the games crashes while running an AD, you loose the ship. CCP assures me the crashing is not on their end or the client. So I guess the internet stability of my current location (Andes Mountains Ecuador) could be the issue (although it only happen when I’m in AD or make 10 or so jumps in a row in the game and during the session change. So CCPs response is a bit suspicious.
Most recently I’m just been doing stupid things to see the results. I’ve been flying to WH relic and Data sites in a Helios uncloaked when other people are already there to gauge their reaction. Results are 50% of people run away, 25% ignore me as I’m in a Helios and pretty much useless in combat and the other 25% try to kill me (some succeed)
I’ve also been loading hauler with a little over a billion in goods and flying from Dodixie to Jita to see my survival odds. so far 7 attempts (5 success, 2 ganks).
Hardware can’t support fights.
10 years too late on literally everything players beg for.
Relentlessly diverting resources away from the game and into NFTs and other outdated junk ideas…
My advice is no. And I’m on the verge of joining those winning Eve after 14 years.
Once is a gamble.
Twice is a mistake…
After 20 straight unconscionable and foolish moves, it’s clear that the man is not all there mentally and doesn’t care for Eve Online or it’s players that fund his lavish life.
Arrendis does have a point about the cost and the impact. I mean, how many of those lecturing me about the ease of bashing stations are risking 550m ISK ships on any regular basis…( or in the case of my Nightmare…1.3 billion ) like when the stations do have formidable defence. It’s not quite the same as losing a Slasher or being ganked in my Condor.
Same goes for the impact. Small skirmishes at gates are a daily thing…but its not every day one gets to be involved in the biggest war and biggest ever battle in highsec. I think I can finally say I don’t need lecturing to.
Well, good thing you never try to twist things out of context because you hate that I call you out on being a derivative hack who’s still apeing the schtick James315 did so very, very much better, huh?
Here’s the context:
Yup. a Tristan. Unfitted. Unpiloted. Unowned. Dropped from an abandoned structure that was blown up as we retook our space after fighting a defensive war for over a year solid against a coalition of 150,000 characters in 103 alliances. And that’s all you could come up with? Trying to claim that I’m passing sweeping the floors off as PvP?
LOL. You just get weaker and weaker with this crap, don’t you?
Hands down, CCP is fielding the beefiest servers in the industry. Don’t believe me, ask developers at other game companies when you see them at trade shows. They’ll tell you the same thing.
The servers don’t choke because they can’t support the number of people showing up for fights.
The server choke because nothing could support the number of people showing up for fights. They make the servers more powerful, we push more people in, and we keep pushing until the servers break. Find me another MMO that’ll handle 1,000 people in the same fight. EVE’ll do that without breaking a sweat. We don’t push the servers past their limits these days until it’s 5000+, and every one of them is launching drones and fighters (which, for purposes of battlespace tracking and calculations, is each effectively another whole player. So effectively 10-15k unique entities in the fight).
Screw fighting… put half that many people in the biggest cities in WoW, put them into a single location in FFXIV, watch the server break down and cry.
CCP screws up a lot of things. A lot of things. Their hardware ain’t one of 'em.
I am an alpha clone. Today I spent two hours in Amamake. In the space of an hour, I fought a Flycatcher almost to death, ran away with no charges left in the booster, fought a Corm Navy and a Slicer, killed the Corm first and the Slicer second, guns at 93% heat, neuts at 91% heat, only one charge and high hull remaining, 1 tick away from being tackled by a Caracal, ran off. 10 minutes later, I killed a 90m Caracal, guns at 98% heat, low structure, 1 charge left, burned Multispectrum Hardener, neuts at 99.5% and 93%. A couple of ticks away from being tackled by a Navy Cat + Vexor pair, ran off. The opponent took 18,000+ damage and got reload off on her RLML plus a dozen volleys. I tanked it.
I was shaking so hard. Killing a hundred and a half million of ships (and getting 4m in loot, yey) is not by any means super noteworthy for a 40m Stabber. It is certainly cool, but the actual fights themselves are the fun part. I have worked for a long time to get these kills, and solo pvp will definitely not make you money for a long time.
Try buying a hundred T1 frigates, with tons of different fits (T2 guns and decent tank though). Lose every single one. When you feel ready, roam in more expensive stuff or bigger stuff or blingier stuff. I recommend the Minmatar-Amarr warzone. The Amamake, Auga, and Turnur areas a really hot. There are some other good locations too, like Tama (though you have to watch out for turboblinged fancy stuff).
There is so much to do in this game, and solo does have a lot of stuff going for it.
One thing you might like is to take an absolutely stupid fit (I recommend a Moa with dual X-Large Ancillary Shield Boosters, a large shield extender, a multispectrum hardener, a shield boost amplifier, cargo and fitting lows (after the DCU), resist rigs, and fireworks.
Go sit somewhere where there are a lot of solo movements and sit around until someone shoots at you. My record on the test server is 111,000 damage against a Tengu, Phantasm, and Punisher, and later a Phoenix.
You’re witnessing „Forum PvP“ from a whole bunch of people. It used to be a lot more common. Your thread is about as good as it gets these days.
@Maximus_Raaz I am a Linux on Steam user myself, while I don’t experience much with disconnects or latency, I have reported issues with their visuals and they failed with the answer, “We couldn’t get the client to do that.”. So there you have it, they offer you a triple A game and deliver a moronic responses all the time from support.
Do you use Winebottler for your Mac or do you stick strictly with Mac apps? As a Linux OS user, I prefer to steer clear of any Windows games when possible. I have gone above and beyond to seek out the native Linux version when available. Unfortunately this is one where I must resort to using Steam’s Photon to play. It seems to function well with the few Steam games I do play.
You didn’t do anything.
You just tagged along like a beta orbiter.
I’m using the native Mac app for Apple Silicon which I downloaded from the EVE website. I don’t think there is a functioning Wine alternative for it as of yet (for Apple Silicon). If I brought an Intel Mac I would be bootcamping Windows but I did not. The game is actually really smooth with the exception of the dropped connections I get during session changes (in AD and after several consecutive jumps). I’m actually wondering if my account is the issue as it was created in America but for the last 3 months I’ve been logging in from Ecuador. I know it messes up all my streaming services. Maybe I’ll try again through a VPN when/if I start playing again.
No shame in taking a break.
You never quit EvE, you just cloak for an extended time.
–Gadget will see you on your return
Yup! That’s the job of a Goonswarm Director, after all, just tag along!
Resorting to the ‘alpha/beta’ nonsense that was tired and pathetic fifteen years ago, too. You just can’t come up with anything new or original, can you?
