First let me make clear that my time away from eve was way more extensive than intended. Like 5 years. That being said I need some advice on specifics here.
I have been searching for lvl 4 mission ships and their fits for a few days. I would like to spin a Raven navy issue but need some ideas how you would fit this out t2 and still be effective at all lvl 4’s. This’d include Angel Extrav. Before leaving eve I used to lvl 4 in a drake and salvaged everything ( using another alt or swapping ships ). I will still do the same unless you can come up with an idea for a full clear fit.
I have the skills to run everything missile, rail, & fits.
I’d appreciate your input as I am well aware there have been a multitude of changes since my last run.
a lot of ppl seem to love the rattlesnake (myself included). Though you’ll also need drone skills (plus your missile skills) to make full use of it due to the role bonus (massive increase to the hp and damage output of heavy/sentry drones)
Once you go Snake… The Rattlesnake actually does 93.75% of the same missile damage as the Navy Raven - plus drone damage.
Arguably you’re limited to thermal and kinetic damage, but these are typically the highest or second highest damage you want to apply anyway. Plus you can easily augment this with omni drone damage. Granted, you won’t have the same missile application damage - but a missile guidance computer or rigor will get you very close.
The Rattlesnake also makes excellent use of the new C3-X dual drone/missile damage modules and has an impressive passive shield tank (should you opt for this route).
The only downside to the Rattlesnake is that while you get an automatic drone role bonus, you have to train into the missile bonus with the Gallente skillset (Caldari just gives you shield resistances).
With the Rattlesnake your gank is largely your tank. With cruise missile and sentries it’s not unheard of to be able to dish out 1600-1800 applied DPS. For grinding through L4 missions (if that’s your goal), there are few ships better at it.
Do you have a fit you use for the snake you’d be willing to share?
*edit
Better yet, if I do go rattlesnake how would you fit it and feel comfortable using as little bling as possible. Like none would be great.
The fit really depends on if you want to passive or active tank it. Assuming you wanted to go maximum gank, a base fit would involve something like this:
• 2x C3-X Ballistic control
• 2x Drone Damage Amp II, 2x Ballistic Control II (these can be upgraded to Faction when prices return to sane levels
• 500MN MWD for propulsion; a Gist B-Type currently offers the most bang for your buck
If you opt for rapid heavy missile launchers, you’ll want 1-2 T2 hydraulic rigs to extend range. Otherwise, if you go cruise missiles you’ll want a pair of T2 rigors. You’ll also want a T2 drone link augmentor in the highs.
You used to be able to snag Deadspace x-large shield boosters and amplifiers for a pittance, but those days are sadly behind us. Most players opt for a pair of T2 adaptive invulns.
A target painter comes in handy for redirecting drone fire as well as helping to apply both missile and drone damage. You’ll want at least one omnidirectional tracking link with optimal range and tracking scripts.
I actually fly a Kronos Marauder. It does about 1200 DPS out to 70km and is reasonably fast for completing L4s. Some missions I get in excess of 1800 DPS. It’s probably not your thing which is why I only mentioned the Rattlesnake.
I can fly everything ( a few caps excluding, and minmatar since I’ve no gun skills for those ). I am just cheap. I understand the value of spending a few isk to complete the missions faster thus returning the investment faster. Which is the only reason I am not looking to continue using the drake or tengu when there appears to be some better options.
Faction and Deadspace gear (as well as implants) usually pay for themselves within a few sessions as they greatly enhance performance. You can always start T2 and upgrade from there.
It depends. Rapid heavies with auto-targeting missiles can deliver around 800 DPS out to 100km with the right fit. They’re great for clearing out smaller ships while your Gecko or sentries take out the larger ones.
If you like to get in and brawl, Geckos and rapid heavies are the perfect fit. If you like to snipe from afar, go cruise and sentries.
nope. 1800 APPLYED DPS ? only to BS. with torpedoes. AFTER you paint it. and with apply rigs.
Also, RS have a very good tank (thanks to bonus res). It however does not have a huge cap, and the missile launchers eat a gastronomic amount of CPU. I agree with c3-x +2faction mods, but I think a damage control helps reduce the need for rep, just my opinion though.
also consider using 2 active specialized hardeners + invul, and appy rigs.

here the issue is that the only propmod is a MJD.
you can switch the cruise for rapid lights, for a bit more apply (but less DPS), and then remove the painter for a mwd.

How about you Voltaire. What is your fit preference for the Rattlesnake?
Just to clarify, I am not a ‘veteran’ player really. This build below was suggested by someone else as a nice starter fit for the Snake without costing an arm and a leg.

The only thing I noted and the original maker of this build said is that, once you have the skills for it (and I presume you do), its better really to replace the specific fields with 2 lots of adaptive invulnerability fields instead. I am using… pith mods for that and i’m hitting about the same peak resistances in thermal and kinetic while also having nice chunky EM and explosive resistances as well.
If you’re doing Caldari Navy Battleships for L4s, I highly recommend the Navy Scorpion over teh Raven. I don’t have a fit at this time, not in the game, but it has a tons beefier tank and 8 mids. So you can get a lot better fits cause don’t need to dedicate as much stuff to tank as well as have extra slots. Double prop mod on it MJD / MWD is very good. You can play with it in the game fitting tool. And you don’t need to bling anything, only use some faction damage mods and maybe the MWD for less cap penalty. Thats it.
The Navy Scorpion is fine, but it has 25% less damage, 50% less range and 25% less application. The Rattlesnake costs less and does 20% more missile damage.
