Well lore wise Edencom is made up from the four core k-space factions to protect New Eden core systems from Triglavian invasion forces and the way of life for said factions.
Yes, but Edencom is not “all the four nations put together”, it is a specific arm of CONCORD with limited scope, responsibilities, and rights. It is not the United States or even NATO; it is more like the UN office of counter-terrorism or something. The four nations still fight each other on other fronts.
Thus every system in any the four nations is not an ‘Edencom system’, every ship in any the four nations navies is not an ‘Edencom force’. Even the Fortress systems are just systems Edencom has fortresses in - not systems that Edencom controls beyond that. There is no specific benefit in those systems for Edencom aligned people.
as you say anyone with Edencom standings is more or less the same as someone realworld having good repore with United Nations, other than that they have their on country/faction alignance standings.
While Trigs are an old faction*(or part of an very old one)* that has returned to K-Space and the younger races/factions. A bit like the old ones returning to known space in Babylon5 Shadow Wars
