Updated System Requirements - Discontinue Windows 7 and 8 Support

No, because Windows 7 is total and utter garbage. The APIs required to develop a video game either dont exist on windows 7 or are such a primitive state that its equivalent to writing most of another video game.

The handful of people wh won’t upgrade from windows 7 are not valuable and have already been given more than enough of everyone else’s subscription money keeping their fetid pile of garbage computer supported for eve.

After 32-bit OS expel it was 3 years for me. So now i belive it will be 5.
Progress! Always.

True. And when something is turned off or doesn’t exist, it does not need patching

Yeah, they all use simmilar marketing tactics

As you said it’s not 90s anymore.
Don’t expect hackers to break into houses and plug in usb sticks.
Internet has been the main source of malware for a long time and still is.

I don’t know how to react to that.

I don’t think Windows 7 users really amount to the size of the US Navy. :joy:

more like the mongolian or saharan navy. Windows 7 users wouldn’t have battleships either, they would at most have duck boats with a bad misfire in half the cylinders

Buy a separate TPM 2.0 chip. Every MB since around 2017 or even older has a connector to plug it in.

As a Linux user this is what worries me by maybe enforcing the use of the TPM chip (yes I disable it on my 7950X system). Windows users have a worrying time ahead with AI being MS’s future savior and one has to wonder for whose benefit will it truly be for the user or MS’s deep learning about the users habits, political views etc !

So just install a good Linux Distro like POP-OS and then install Steam from the POP-Shop and you are up and running after inputting your Eve client info and getting the security code from your Eve registered email account.

If you want true customization then Linux would be your OS of choice, I chose to leave the Windows 7 when I saw what Win 10 was like in 2016 ( I truly loved Win 7 64 Pro, the best OS MS ever released and I am talking from a users point of view that started with Win 3.0 and migrated to most Windows releases Except Win Millennium & Vista.) Linux is really pretty damn good these days and I can full recommend POP-OS from system76, it works well on all my systems especially my 7950X with 6950XT and 64Gb Ram - My systems will never see a MS OS on them, AI will scrape every bit of data from you with future versions of Windows OS ! Windows serves MS whereas Linux serves the user.

POP-OS Linux by System76, no back doors, no AI built in !

Linux is just unusable as Desktop OS. No useful programs, no tools, nothing. Which is sad.
Good as a server, though.

Each subsequent version of the software is required to support operation on the OS or hardware on which its previous version worked. Otherwise, it’s Another software.
This is a Base that has been forgotten over time.
The race to upgrade hardware is more important for them.
What has changed radically in the EVE client in 15 years? 1% of NOTHING. But the system requirements have increased 50 times. Same with Youtube after google own it.

A well informed, well reasoned position. Thank you for your critical technical insight.

This was inevitable. To continue operating and updating EVE while keeping it current, CCP’s own systems need to keep up with the current pace of global software (including OS) development. It is not up to CCP to take some sort of stand or make some kind of statement against the admittedly-troubling surveillance implications of both Windows 10 and 11, nor could CCP do anything about it if they wanted to. For them, it’s about staying afloat, and that’s the way it should be. CCP cannot be expected to both cater to a miniscule fraction of its player base that may be holding up development and also stay at the forefront of MMO gaming as one of the oldest titles still in operation.

Without getting too bogged down in the specifics/merits of one argument v. the other, this is the sort of trade-off/price that those of us who remain with Windows 7 should expect to pay (personally I am planning to switch to Linux next year when I finish school and get a new machine to replace my current 8 year-old laptop, so I’m only sticking with Windows 7 until then). Stick with an older set of systems/software and expect to get left behind eventually. If you don’t want that to be a permanent situation, make plans to adapt accordingly, or alter the current form of your gaming hobby. Oh, and perhaps look elsewhere (such as your elected officials) if you really want to make a sociopolitical point about technology or get something done about it.
