I have an account and enjoy playing the game at home on the PC but i am occasionally called to travel for family visits sometimes 2 weeks at a time.
for travel i have a Macbook and have downloaded the game but not logged in as i do not want to break anything. the Question is
Can i log in and play on the Mac and playusing my character from the PC and after returning home then log back in on the PC or does using windows and Mac mean i have to have 2 accounts ?
I am retired so dont have the funds to run 2 seperate accounts hence my asking
EDIT: I forgot to mention my PC character is Omega as i subscribe monthly
Your character’s data and all ingame assets, skills, messages, contacts, locations are stored on the Eve servers - so you can log in and play from basically any computer anywhere and it will all be there.
The only difference you might notice is some game/graphics settings and window positions are not stored on the Eve servers, so you will have to configure those yourself.
excellent news and thank you for the very quick reply.
so once i switch off my pc leave home and begin my travels I can use my Mac as long as i hve an internet connection. if i understand correctly i will not break anything or mess up my account
Correct. Lots of people switch between computers. For example some people play Eve on work computers (I wish I worked there, lol) and then when they get home they play Eve on a different PC - their home PC - using their same account/character.
Your account and character is luckily not tied to one type of hardware. Totally independent because it is stored on the Eve servers.
You can log in from any type of system - as long as it is supported by the Eve client (the game software). There might be minor variation in how smooth the game plays, responsiveness, graphics quality - due to differences in hardware and operating systems. But your account and character is not affected - remains the same.
thanks for taking the time out to help, At my age tech is wonderful but at times a chaotic adeventure trying to get the right info for what i hope to do.
for me the topic can be closed if you have that ability as the info for others who might have a similar situation using both Mac and PC it is now firmly established
If you want, you can also backup and restore config files from either Mac to PC or PC to Mac, in order to sync your settings, overview, saved fits, etc. Instructions are here, but there is a caveat: the process can be a bit tricky, with long and hidden file paths. If you’re not very technical and/or you haven’t customized your overview, don’t have a complicated window setup, etc., it may be easier just to recreate your configuration manually.
That said, I can confirm the basic requirement is possible. I regularly switch between a Mac and a Windows machine, playing EVE with the same accounts.
I have precisely this setup - gaming PC for home/tryhard multiboxing, and mac for travels. There is no issue with it, if you by chance leave one client on, and try to log in on the other place, it will kick you out on the other one. Haivng launchers ready is fine, you can be logged in in the launcher on both pc and mac, so long you do not launch actual client.
As far as settings go, they are local and not synced, so unless you use a 3rd party tool to copy/restore, you will have to reconfigure everything. There may also be issue with positioning of UI when you restore, since your mac will most probably have different resolution.
Big note - this setting includes channels you joined and filters! So you will have to manually rejoin all chats you want (like intel etc)… If you play on a single account (or even single character), having links to all relevant things like your channels, alt names, fittings in a note helps. I personally have a private chat channel with acl for all my alts, and its motd contains links to all that + saved overview + links to shared bookamrk folders etc. It saves lot of time when I connect from new place, and don’t necessarily want to spend day copying etc.
It also includes things like gate jump permissions (those edencom, lowsec and whatever popups) .. so again, you’ll have to click everything once more on the new machine
excellent to hear and thank you for the information.
I do have a question as i have opened the game on my mac got to the launcher but cannot see my other character/accounts ? I use an account to login to the game on the PC and the web pages but my character in game whilst the webpage sees it as an account sharing the same email address it does not show up in the Mac launcher like it does on the PC.
i decided not to click around too much in case i bork something so in the meantime just letting my Mac download the full game files rather than just go with the launcher.
basically i have no idea how to get my characters t show up in the mac launcher as my only option says create new account which i do not want to do. I want to use the one i already have on the PC
On the Windows machine, you didn’t install and setup EVE through Steam, did you? Steam accounts require some extra fiddling to work with the direct download client.
