Version 19.08 - General Feedback

Then they should use a term that doesnt mean one of 4 quarters of a circle.

I know someone has potentially put in effort working on it, and thatā€™s unfortunate, but the new skill and character UI is just terrible. Having a full-sized character portrait is a nice touch, but the rest is horribleā€¦

There is so much wasted space, the colours make things hard to distinguish, the new queue just feels clunky. Everything looks flat and mashed together and very hard to differentiate elements. It looks like a totally different UI design philosophy compared to the rest of the game. As if the old character viewer was just pasted inside of the new oneā€¦ and did I mention all the wasted UI space?! The fonts donā€™t even match!

Edit: Days later and I $^&%&^ hate it! Seriously, 3 times I had to click a command before it would execute what I wanted it to. How is this serviceable??!

Whatt? These things ? I am confused and curious

May be while we are looking at this new UI we are looking at future EvE Onlines new UI design style and look .

Mayy beā€¦ Mayy be soon they will change everything suitable to this ā€œlookā€ to create coherent composition ā€¦

Ooh God! I think i am scaring the ā– ā– ā– ā–  out of myself now !

with a large scale, only 4 skills fit in the skill window. is it possible to make the skill sections collapse and leave only icons. then the skill window can be made much higher.

this is the most inconvenient and not ergonomic version of the interface. Why did you have to make a window with the same skills SO SMALL? Return it as it was! Inconvenient.
I will tell you in a language you understand - IT IS VERY UNcomfortable for me to work with skills in such a SMALL WINDOW !!!
The person who was responsible for the development of the new interface should be removed from his post, let him go draw skins and sweep the floors. Complete mediocrity. Absolutely awful interface.
1\10 rating for such a terrible job, bring back the awful interface!

The new skillsheet UI is very close to worst possible design, it looks like som complete-fail bad-hangover-dev crawling-on-all-4 implementation of a windows 8 start menu for touchpad mode on a 320x200 pixel device for 110 year old users with double glaucoma.
Simply shift-delete that disaster, restore the previous and make sure whoever is resoponsible for this mess will never again get a new assigment, itā€™s nothing short of a disaster of the 1st degree.

Since everyone is busy giving the skillsheet UI all the hate it deserves, it appears few have tried the new NPE, which is also a total and complete fiasco.

If you want to help new players understand eve, shift-delete the new ā€œairā€ NPE and focus on the career agents instead, they are lightyears better, despite they too are in dire need of an update.

The new NPE is: irrelevant, misleading, require the player to be familiar with eve since before, involves confusing stuff like ECM and remote rep, in a much too early stage, it was so bad that despite i was curious about it, i couldnā€™t stand it, i quit the thingā€¦

The new NPE is a total disaster of (if at all possible) an even greater magnitude than the total skillsheet-fiasco. shift-delete it, permanently, forever.
It was so much better some 10-15 years ago when aura just gave the new player a courier job; ā€œBring this encryption codebook to the career agents over thereā€ and thatā€™s it.

While messing with the career agents, make them available to older players too, repeatable every 3 months like the SoE epic is, but without repeating the same old rewards, so we donā€™t have to create throwaway alts to test it with to be able to better help and understand the new players. Old and returning players may need to refresh their memory by running a few career missions if thereā€™s something they havenā€™t done in a number of years, or to get familiar with new content.

Another thing: Players who quit the tutorials, why can they not go back to them or restart them? (without repeating any rewards) - Bad game design, to say the least.

Oh, I did as soon as i finished my rant about the skill UIā€¦

Itā€™s neither better nor worse that the last three attempts to improve the npeā€¦ all of them lacked accurancy to resemble the actual gameplay. I personally like an indroduction story. But even without, If ccp would just bring back aura in the career missions, it would maybe get rid of 90% of all questions in rookie help  oh, and shift-delete the ā€˜Info Panel - missionsā€™ with all the errors you could only bring up if you never played the game as a ccp dev.

I donā€™t know why there still has been no response from CCP about the scaling and blank spaces on the new skill window.

Everyone with low resolutions see it each and every time they open the new window. It is making skill browsing and planning skills really unpleasant and irritating.

I will give examples. Notice the size of the ā€˜scrollerā€™ for spaceship command compared to the length of the list. It takes forever to scroll :

Another example of how badly the scaling is. To scroll my mouse needs to be over the list - but look at what happens when my mouse is on the left side of the list - I cannot see the right-hand column due to the pop-up obscuring it :

And if I move my mouse to the right , the other side it also obscured, but only marginally better :

So basically I see 2 skills at a timeā€¦ Spaceship command has 85 skills - I would like to know how CCP thinks it is a great new design to browse through 85 skills with just 2 properly visible!!! On the old window I could see a lot of skills and it was easy to browse around and look for things.

I told you guys, and show it ā€¦ just i dont know why they remoove it :frowning:

This is a step in the right direction, now make the whole new thing optional please!

Is the font different now? I canā€™t tell. :frowning:

Tool Tips are not the fix required for this, I for one would prefer to turn the tooltips off completely, the popups they provide are generally not useful in my experience.

Example
Looted some item, then BAM pop up of what skill it takes to use it. Spoiler I have no intention of ever deciding to train some skill because I looted something that uses the skill.

this is marginally better than the previous iteration, still not as good as before you ripped out the previous beloved highly functional, nearly flawless UI out of the game and gave us this new not improved sadness of an ā€œupdateā€.

I made a (horrifying) new character just to try out the new NPE, and while it was more fun and interesting (I actually enjoyed it) you are 100% correct, its is misleading and teaches stuff that isnā€™t likely to be relevant to new players for quite a while. Unless some corporation is actively scooping them up to turn them into disposable repair/ecm drones they arenā€™t likely to be using this stuff for a very long time I donā€™t think.
The NPE needs to focus on how to fight, escape, and survive. It needs to teach how to travel, how to dock and get into a new ship after taking a loss (meaning you have been blown up and need to build a new ship using the market and fitting window) and it really needs to lead directly into a career agent that specializes in PvP.
It should also not shove that AIR (whatever that means) skill crap in their faces, it really doesnā€™t teach anything (what skills are, why you need them, and how to make use of your queue) and doesnā€™t work very well at all.

they added a bit more information.
Also it proves the dammed thing can be modifiedā€¦ I was starting to wonder about that.
Now it needs to be modified until it looks and functions exactly like the old one, only faster and with more features.

The NPE is about getting newbies excited and eager to try ā€œcool stuffā€. Many players try a new game for an hour, then go ā€œboooooriiiiiingā€ and uninstall, THAT is what the NPE is for: cool stuff, being entertained.

Game mechanics are not an issue at that moment, those become an issue later.

Nice new tooltip. However.

Would CCP please be so kind and explain to the great unwashed why they tell me that Drone Rigging V takes 53 days to train? While the queue tells me it only takes 13D 18H to train. Naturally, the tooltip tells me the total time until the skill is trained in the current queue list. Which is a pointless information. Who needs to know how many days it takes me to train that skill in the queue that will most likely change every other day or hour (depending on how old the char is)? In this particular tooltip you need to know how long THIS skill level takes to train. It is confusing to see ever changing values in that particular tooltip when you add or take away skills from the queue. Didnā€™t CCP want to make things easier for new players? With this information there they make it more confusing instead.

This information, however, could be useful if it were shown in the tooltip that shows up when you hover over the skill IN THE QUEUE. There, and only there, a cumulative training time number would make sense because THERE I am not interested in knowing how long a particular skill takes to train (as it is already shown in the list) but how long it takes to get to a skill in the current queued skill list.

And no, the previous skill menu did NOT show the time until trained in the skill list. It showed how long it takes a skill level to train.

It this really that hard?

ā€“

Also nice: Instead of fixing the overlapping issues by rearranging the button layout, CCP just removed the seconds from the total training time and in the queue they removed seconds and minutes to reduce the overlapping issues. But it still clips into the buttons if you have long queues, and so does the ā€œTraining pausedā€ text:

grafik

The removal of time units makes skill training time calculation less precise and harder to understand. 2 things that new players really need to get a better understanding of skill training and training time. And CCP left the useless ā€œ1Moā€ time unit in the queue in place even though it serves no purpose, makes the time reading less clear and more confusing and costs valuable queue space because CCPis not willing to make it wider.

But hey, at least they made the gap between the categories and the queue narrower.

This tooltip that pops up when you hover over an item that you not have the skill requirements to use is one of the most annoying things in the entire UI. It shows up at the wrong times, it blocks you from scrolling, it doesnā€™t go away like other tooltips and you can accidentally click on the Buy Skill button which opens up even more menus and screenblocking notifications.

It would be so nice if this tooltip would show up to the side or on the edge of the window you are currently scrolling through so that it does not block interaction anymore. Funky thing here is that CCP introduced the same annoying tooltip in the queue where it blocks scrolling up/down so that you can look through items unlocked by the skill. However, an equally important tooltip in the Categories that shows you the attributes for the category does not stay open and does not allow you to open the market with the respective attribute implant categories expanded.
