Yeah all of the new UI components are massive and can’t be reduced much which makes it really hard to multitask. It kinda feels like they are designing it for mobile.


To that end, we’ve partnered up with a number of Spanish-speaking players to make this happen, and would like to give huge thanks to DR4GONS, Juvenius, orik Kado, Rei Arzi, IcyMind Arierep, Vizary Stahl, and Juno Swanteisger for their invaluable assistance.

Wait a minute. Is there a way to contribute to a desired language? How can I contribute for the italian one (for example)?

Thanks for the update, some good things like the multi-fit for T3 are added.
Hopefully we will soon be able to read in the next updates that the broken “trigger on hack” mechanism in C4 signatures has been fixed :slight_smile:

New Launcher feedback;

There is a new style splash screen that shows as above though does not say what it will be doing to my computer! There was no terms to agree with or no option to close without updating or installing what it is trying to currently do.

I am having some concern with this install of exit after the other day also noticing something about facebook on the launcher the other day.

I do not want facebook on my computer. Can anyone confirm what is happening as Facebook is a invasion of privicy and I do not wish to turn my webcam into some online entertainment for the multiverse.

Please advise.

PhotonUI continues to waste not just space, but complexity, in the most pointless of ways. I’m going to illustrate this with what is, really, the stupidest of these missteps, but also the one that causes the least actual problems, just so you can clearly see what the hell is going wrong with your whole UI design.


This is the top of the member list of Jita local. As you can see, the first bit is with the scrollbar ‘expanded’ and then below that, the scrollbar ‘collapsed’. Except it’s not collapsed. Only the slider is ‘collapsed’, the scrollbar behind the slider remains full-width, so ‘collapsing’ the slider gives you exactly 0 pixels of useful space.

Your UI is there to convey information in a clear and useful manner, taking up the minimum amount of real estate needed to do its job, while simultaneously being aesthetically pleasing. Every single piece of it should keep that in mind. Every single element should use exactly as much space as it needs to use, and otherwise get out of the way.

And that’s clearly the intent here: to get out of the way and provide information. Because the slider, you know, tries to get out of the way so more actual information in on-screen. But you get no additional information on the screen. Not one pixel more of useful data. Because the scrollbar track behind it doesn’t collapse. So you’re still wasting space.

In the top of the main market window, we see, above the name of the item we’re looking at, the tree we used to get there. If we click on that, it takes us to the full list of Composite Reaction Formulas. Which, you know, seems useful, right? Click on Composite Reaction Formulas, go to Composite Reaction Formulas!

Click on ‘Reaction Formulas’, the middle part of the directory tree up in the main window, and you go to… Composite Reaction Formulas? Click on ‘Blueprints & Reactions’ and… Composite Reaction Formulas.

Which makes that more wasted space, in a market UI that’s already so cramped, if I go to the minimum window size…


You can’t even get the buy orders to show up in the window. Meanwhile…

And that’s with the ticker turned off. If we turn on that piece of clutter, you can only get 1 sell order visible (and still no buy orders).

Now, again, the examples I’m using are specifically chosen because they don’t cause horrible gameplay issues. But that design philosophy of ‘we’re going to waste your limited real estate’ carries through on everything.

This is already the ‘compact mode’ of the overview. You know, the thing you’re relying on when you’re fighting in space, and every single bit of screen space is either actively useful, or actively a problem. See the white bar to the left of the useful data? I put that in to highlight the gap between the border of that window, and the beginning of the useful pixels. You’ll notice I left it at half the height so that you can see, on the IHUB and TCU entries, that no, that’s not part of the first column of data, it’s just empty window-frame. That is more wasted space.

As I said, this runs rife through your entire UI. Things that don’t need to be ginormous take up space other parts of the window could be using. Frames that could be 1 freaking pixel wide consume valuable space—and in 1 frame, it’s not a big deal, but it adds up. A little here, a little there, and pretty quickly your UI is only getting in the way.

It’s gotten better since the initial release of Photon, but for the love of god, go back through every element in the Photon UI and ask yourselves ‘am I wasting my customers’ space?’ One more example…


See that? See the compass band around the capacitor where all the bookmarks are? THAT IS GOOD. That is not wasted space. Yes, it can get cluttered, but you can filter the clutter to drill down on things. Otherwise, it’s inobtrusive and gets out of the way, is reasonably compact, and can fit a whole lot of information because color use is built into the presentation.

Whoever came up with that, all those years ago when it went in? Get them thinking about how to present information in the rest of the UI, please. And stop wasting our screen space.

Reading the release notes, regarding the change to PVE it says " * Cash Flow For Capsuleers (1 of 10) will now only complete after all enemies within the site are destroyed."

Does this mean you only get bounty payment if all rats at the site are destroyed?

For the LIFE OF ME - I have never known how “Compact” needs SUCH a MASSIVE header… never mind all the crap it hides beneath it…

And you wouldn’t mind so much “IF” compact was just that - the Info you NEED but it’s not…

Feels like a one Dev a month team on this front, and One, at that, that only logs in once a month… Sadly.

I didnt even know you could do this? But yes, the Photon UI is overly bloated

I notice a lot of fixes to the Photon UI in this patch, this is good. However, I notice none of the issues that I’ve made bug reports and forum posts about have been touched in this patch. Notably the D-Scan range slider not working properly, selected Items highlights cut off by the frame of the window the items are displayed in, UI being generally over bloated without utility and and what utilities there are such as buttons being too small and harder to access in a hurry.

If I have occasionally time to help them and no previous experience to be a good volunteer, I can do nothing

Have you even looked at the site to see the different volunteer opportunities? ISD are volunteers, bug hunters, language translators etc.

How about making the skills in the skill queue multi selectable to drag and drop it within the queue? It is so annoying to move a whole block of skills from the end to the front or someplace inbetween

So. We’ve now got confirmation that some version of the Probe (Probe Fleet Issue?) is going to be getting a new role as a missile boat.

@CCP_Aurora can I please ask you to reconsider this foolishness? The Breacher is already a missile boat that gets upgraded to a bomber. The whole thing’s built around missile progression. Give a Breacher Fleet Issue its scanning bonuses if you want. Or, and I know this is nuts… give the PFI (if that’s what’s coming) gun bonuses.

I get it. I do. The Firetail’s already a Fleet Frigate with gun bonuses. That’s why the Breacher’s a better choice here. Or, if you want a Fleet Frigate with a specialized roll, avoid Arty. Artillery’s already borked. I know, it completely is. Artillery is either ‘cycles too slow’ or ‘we have enough of them on-grid now to delete one hostile with each volley’. So keep the PG low and give it range bonuses that make it clear it’s an AC boat.

Plus, you’ve already got the Vigil → VFI, too, which gets bonuses specifically to rockets, so it’s definitely possible to give bonuses to ACs, and not Arty. That’d even make the ‘PFI’ fit in with the structure of ‘Fleet Frigate with specialized role characteristics gets only specialized weapon bonuses’ that’s already established on the faction T1 ewar frigs.

But the upgrade path for both T1 versions of the CovOps frigates being missile boats… that’s just bad. Don’t do that.
