Version 20.10 - General Feedback

Ok, so great job with the hangar, however…

I can no longer spin my capitals!

WTF? Literally unplayable

Confirm. Have the same problem

Using DirectX 11 and the legacy UI with zero problems…

Please accept my congratulations for an amazing Uprising expansion. I went through the patch notes and it is so impressive. The team worked like never before and we are so grateful for delivering this to us!

Very very well done! Xaar

When in WH Space, + B calls up the bookmark window and clicking SAVE posts the icon on the screen. HOWEVER, the bookmark does NOT show up in your personal locations window unless you first exit WH space. Then you have to wait four (4) minutes while the timer runs down before you can go back through the wormhole and proceed as normal. If you don’t first exit WH space to normal space and warp off, you have to scan down the WH exit afresh. A definite pain, especially if someone is hunting you.

The new hangar design for subcaps is great. I wish i could say the same for capitals, but not be able to spin the camera around my capital inside my hangar is quite annoying.

When are we getting the ability to enlist in faction warfare independently of our corp?

CCP, well done on the massive upgrade. Mostly looks great and plays great so fair play there, but a few very poor UI choices in places.

The docking animation and that terrible chirping sound that goes with it - where do we disable that?

Also, what’s with the compact mode on a lot of the windows in this Prism UI - why is there no close button shown in compact mode? You’re seriously making us open a sub-menu to close these windows … every single time? There’s already enough clicking in the UI without adding another layer to the most often used windows.

I’m liking the new update in principle, but the new Upwell Structure graphics seem to be destroying my PC.

Yesterday I could run several accounts without issues, today even two accounts is having a massive drain my my GPU and keeps crashing drivers due to the load. The only solution is to ensure I use CTRL+SHIFT+F9 before I dock, otherwise its unplayable.

within our alliance, that is a very common complaint. the rendering takes forever, the long black scrren time is pretty painful, but having our computers start to overheat and FPS loss is a major issue. can we get an option to turn off all these animations?

Do we really think that prettier stations is going to increase player retention?

This seems to go back to the “walk around the station” thing that CCP wisely dumped because it consumed time/effort/resources but added nothing of real value to the game.

Yes, a lot of people spend time in stations/structures, I get that. But aside from ship spinning (I hear no longer possible?) and an initial investigation the first few times, how many people regularly just sit and watch and marvel at it? Especially given the animations are on a pretty short and predictable loop. Most people who spend their time in stations are focusing on the UI, not the background…

Eve’s just not a game I can see working well on mobile. There’s already Eve Echoes, I wonder how that’s going…

It’s not that nice on a Ryzen 7 3700x with 32GB of RAM and an RTX3070…

I’m using the legacy UI still (great to see it’s getting updates like the security level in “Personal Assets”), but DirectX12.

Ship spinning still works in the new Upwell docks.
First thing I tried.

my most polite feedback:

  • drop docking notification that wastes space (or give option to disable it)
  • drop docking sound, it’s utterly annoying (or give option to disable it)
  • give option to revert to simple hangar… I can’t even turn the camera on most of my bigger ships far enough to spot killmarks… thanks whoever was in charge of (not) testing
  • give option to disable any kind of (useless) animation inside hangar
  • STOP FREAKIN NINJA-CHANGING SETTINGS (or why was it deemed necessary to move the transparency slider during this update? if I decided to not have my windows transparent, chances are there was a reason for it, and I doubt any of the not-even-playing devs in charge would know better). Please let players keep there settings if there isn’t a really really really strong reason for messing with them…

I do like some of the new ships, but I’m not gonna take the 7 days omega bribe and be quiet about the literal embarrassment of a patch that is the hangar/docking stuff. It’s mind boggling that year after year it’s constantly rushed form-over-function updates that waste resources and only add annoyance after the first time seeing them in action :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Not with caps/super caps apparently?

is there a way to disable the animation when i switch ships? “I get sick from this camera movement”

I only have one suggestion:

Give freighters and jump freighters the same kind of docking visuals as the subcaps. When I do courier contracts, I often have windows open over the ship and I need to be able to click on the ship to open the cargo bay quickly. Now that I can’t spin and adjust the camera angle, it’s hard for me to have a window open and click on my ship.

That’s all. Great update.

Will drop some feedback on logos once I get around to running missions in highsec to get them. Might be a while.

It was disappointing to hear CCP went with the soft cap approach to prevent plex blobbing instead of a hard cap.

The sandbox purists will disagree with me here, and that’s OK, but one thing that really sucks in this game is getting blobbed. You have no chance to win or have any meaningful engagement if the enemy fleet is N+10 or more larger than you, all other things being equal.

Now, when I was a teenager, I had hours every day to spend in a fleet looking for a fight and getting blobbed at the end of it. But I’m an adult with a job now and the reason both myself and others I know who used to play this game IRL no longer play it is that it’s difficult to justify the time investment in trying to find the best part of this game (PVP) without instantly getting deleted by 50 people, when I could play another game that, frankly, respects my time more.

The response that “well, most of the people who play this game ARE adults with jobs, who are significantly older than you, Goodnight Vienna” is an example of survivorship bias.

This is not the case for PVE which can be done anytime with little to no risk, but most of the PVE in this game is boring as hell.

Now, in the rest of the game, including highsec, lowsec, wormholes, and nullsec, being blobbed is a normal thing that happens to all small fleets and that’s fine, but it would be nice if there was at least one way (Proving Grounds doesn’t count) to get fair fights and learn PVP without being blobbed.

In my experience the best and most fun fights in this game are 5 v 5 or less, not 300 v 300 where all you do is anchor on the FC, press F1, and broadcast for repairs. Many players like that, but I find it super boring! No independent decision making allowed!

If at least some of the plexes were hard capped, or even just the small 5-player-per-faction instances, that would be a really big improvement and encourage meaningful PVP, and will also result in more players to fight in space, more demand for modules and ships which means more miners to kill and overall a healthier ingame economy. By all means, still have soft capped plexes! But it would be nice to have the option.

Sure, take this opinion of someone who doesn’t even play anymore for what it is: worthless trash. But please at least consider the potential benefits!
