Version 24.01 - Cradle of War - General Feedback

You need to fix the career agent mission Making Mountains of Molehills 4/10. It doesn’t recognize combat drones as a valid weapon type. This has been an issue for years now…

I believe I can tell you why, after observing the way things work.

I’m sure you’re aware of how many times the “make drones untargetable because they’e supposed to be like weapons/ammo” has come up, yes?

Let’s add a few things up:

Combat drones don’t get counted as weapons in missions, conversley mining drones don’t count toward mining totals.

I believe this is because if combat drones were counted as weapons/ammo and mining drones were flagged as mining lasers, they would automatically become untargetable, like all weapons and mining lasers. Instead, drones of all types are coded like “combat pets” or “companions” in other mmos, separate npc entities that are linked to your character when owned ( and why they just sit there the moment you “abandon” them ). Thus they’re targetable.

I don’t believe FC can separate the weapon MODULE flag from the combat DRONE flag if both are designated as weapons ( same with mining ). Whether this is an engine issue, a database issue, or a skill issue, I couldn’t tell you.

Just a humble hunch, that’s all.

I would like to express my appreciation with the recent events (last 12 months) or so, really giving miners a reason to participate on equal footing to the Ratters and Hackers. Keep it coming Fenris… :+1:

If you’re a solo/hobby miner, your best bet is to warp in to the anomaly, look for anyone flying an Orca or Porpoise, and ask nicely if there are any fleets that you can join. Offering to tip will help as well.

If you’re in a fleet with boosts, the mining will go quicker, but most importantly, you’ll get access to compression so you won’t have to ferry ore back and forth to a station. If your mining hold is 18k m3 or greater (and you compress) you can fit the full 180k units in one go.

Using this buddy up method, I was able to finish out the objective with four anomalies over two days. Works great, and you might even make some new friends. Just don’t freeload. Remember to tip your booster.

Grind is not content and content is not grind.

But it’s always the same thing, just packaged differently, and always highly praised by FC/CCP, only to be a bitter disappointment.

Please let me hide my achievement score. It’s a cool feature, but I don’t want to broadcast it.

And where is the trader?

I see nothing outside that anchor station.

I want all “achievement” nonsense disabled completely. Tat nonsense is “enshitification” at its worst.
I do NOT need sandbox breaking engagement bait.

It’s a ship that you right click on and then select “access” (just warp to the anchorage without docking).

I like the fact that you are trying to work out the logic and reasons for game mechanics. (I also like drones being called ‘pets’) You are kinda roughly in the right direction… determining whether weapons are fitted does indeed involve flags (or ID’s in this case) … however I think the problem is not the ID’s themselves, but rather seems to be that the drone bay is not checked.

I will provide some details information in case it helps you in future for looking up information and working out stuff related to Eve

The database uses a combination of 2 different types of ID’s to determine what an item is, and how to handle it.

The first relevant attribute is called “invCategories” or “category_id”

  • 7 = Module
  • 18 = Drone

The second relevant attribute is called “invGroups” or “group_id”

  • 53 = Energy Weapon (lazorz)
  • 74 = Hybrid Weapon (rails and blasters)
  • 55= Projectile Weapon (projectiles and autocannons aka ammo eaters)
  • 1986 = Precursor Weapon (trig guns)
  • 509 = Missile Launcher Light
  • 510 = Missile Launcher Heavy
  • 506 = Missile Launcher Cruise
  • … and a few others for rockets, torpedoes, rapid launchers, etc
  • 100 = Combat Drone (includes light, medium, heavy and sentry drones)

The game already checks the ship high slots to see if any fitted items have energy/hybrid/projectile/missile/etc weapon ID’s. However, it seems to skip/forget/ignore to check if there is anything in the drone bay with the ‘Combat Drone’ ID. At least that is my impression of it. I hope the info is of some use, and fly safe.

I’ve just experienced these warp in sounds for certain areas a bit more. I find them absolutely stupid and useless. I warp around the grid of the same anomaly and get a number of different warp landing jingles that make no sense whatsoever. When I first experienced them, I thought that different anom and object types would have the same jingle so that you can hear where you warp to, as another means to make it clear where people go. But this is not that. It’s useless, counterproductive, cognitive overload inducing, not at all straightforward, confusion creating noise. Nothing but damaging noise.

Not to mention the Expansion music theme is downright depressing… It reminds me of being in a Funeral Home attending a service for the recently departed…

If anything, it should be upbeat and energetic, something to rally the troops with instead of being somber and sad, as if they’re marching off to their deaths…

Yes, people had to be taught what compression was and how to use it. You’d be surprised how many new miners have no clue what it is. And the surprise in people discovering it is quite funny. I’d assume someone with a 18K ore bay already knows the ropes. Although with not so recent “pay-to-advance” changes who knows.

THIS!

Maybe it’s a bug, but why do we only have access to combat ship skins and not skins for industrial ships, haulers, or freighters?

FC said the war campaign is for everyone : combat players, whether PVP or PVE, industrial players, miners, haulers, etc. And that’s really nice. There are combat missions, hacking, mining, manufacturing, and more.

But why are there no Crystalline reward skins for non-combat ship players? As miners, haulers, and industrial players, we also do our part in this campaign, and we want rewards just like combat ship players.

The following skins already exist for haulers and freighters:

War Reserves Lieutenant Skin
Strategic Materiel Defender Skin
Military Stockpile Captain Skin
Fleet Ordnance Spike Skin

So why don’t we have access to them?

You can complete it with drones. You just have to click in space and open up that window and manually select to go to the location.

I’m enjoying the Amarr campaign so far.

I would like to see options to directly sabotage the enemy, though. ATM, there are only indirect means, like attacking enemy militia mining or exploring in Minmatar space. but those people not enlisted will contribute to the military campaign and be invulnerable. i’d make it a condition that only militia pilots can partake in these activities.

+0.009 for a completed one-time only objective that resets after 3+ months… with max skills on 0.34 base standings    Really? Why even bother adding the standings to the objectives if they are going to be like this?

Take your standings and say thanks!

Yes, but it completely misses the point of a new player who might have had the sense to go for drones on his new Venture, but not be an expert on radial menu yet. Bottom line, CCP/FC have had years to correct this but are too damn lazy to do so. There is a similar problem with a career agent mission which requires an analyser, but does not recognise a T1 analyser fit; again, punishing a new player who has been smart enough to invest in proper analysers early on instead of the civ spec variety. Reported repeatedly, just ignored by the devs who are more interested in silly sounds and pop-up location labels, or making the UI worse.
