Version 24.01 - Cradle of War - General Feedback

So ill start with something that, AFAIK hasn’t been improved with Exordium or with the old Career Agents: Skill books, now i have dyslexia so MIGHT have missed some fine line of text, but The game doesn’t teach the many ways to obtain a new skill, Yes we get handouts, sometimes, and other times we don’t and this can leave a new player confused why the game gave them a module that they cant use.

Suggestion: When this happens Have Aura pop up and tell the player how they can obtain them, or a give them the book, or both!

Next, Please add full Voice acting to the Exordium ARC and Career Agents experience.

So i tested the new Beginner Arc on two different characters, a new one, and a well trained one.
Now, im not exactly a great pilot but at the very least i tried my best understanding what it wanted from me for the Bonus objectives.

So ill start with Part 1: Caldari introduction.
First off, an extra weapon would be nice to compensate the lack of skill level, and a cap battery or Cap Power Relay.

I´d like to suggest the Ship should be replaced with a Kestrel or Condor for 2 reasons.
1: Missile/Rocket Representation! Hybrid turrets are part of the Caldari´s arsenal but its more iconic with Gallante, not to mention, when we make our Character and pick Caldari, it shows a Missile launcher, not a hybrid turret. Makes more sense.
2: More high slots, this wont matter for a new player, but for those that want to Do the Bonus Objective this will matter more so we can equip more Shield Emissions.

Now, for the mission itself, ITS THE HARDEST! like damn, if anyone managed to keep the 3 haulers alive, Great job!! tell me how. I can barely keep one alive on a new character because cap running out and on a trained one, only two survive with a well fitted ship.

I feel like most wont be able to for 2 reasons: Distance, and enough shield emissions (or guns?). 1 can be solved if they are closer to each other and second if we get to fly a Kestrel/Condor due to more high slots.

Now for part 2: Minmatar Introductions
An extra gun would be nice.
I think this is more of a bug than anything, but when we are meant to deal with the Amarr Capital ship, the progress seem to freeze up once you reach Structure on it. Cant really tell if we are meant to take down the structure as well or if its meant to instant pop once it reaches structure`? Regardless, for whatever reason nothing happens and the timer for the Bonus objective runs out, does it count as done or not? i don’t know, but it just sits and nothing happens for awhile.

Part 3: Amarr Introduction
An extra gun would be nice.

Part 4: Gallante Introduction
Nothing, id say this is the easiest of all 4.

Hope this is of use.

Visions of Greatness (Epic Arc)

  • Extended times between NPC transmissions to give more time to read them.

How about voiced dialog instead of requiring people to read during active real-time combat?

Not just for this, but for EVERY bit of text in all combat missions. It’s laughable doing a mission and having all this text in local while I’m actively doing stuff that I don’t read until after it’s all over.

Character portraits are still needlessly cropped in the character window, when will this be fixed?

I’d like to see the full (square) portraits players made in the character window again, not just part of it.

Some achievements or titles are not more important than seeing someone’s face to recognise someone. And if you think they are, why not show them side by side?

There’s no need to crop.

Certainly. However, I bet a Billion ISK that removing 2 BR-tags from the text is much easier than changing the default dimensions of a notification window.

Feedback:
This weird number showing my total archivement points is public which feels odd and is ugly.
In the past the bounty was not just a number, it also looked awesome and had a theme, displaying progress as a number doesn’t align with the theme of eve, displaying it as some influence or thread level: deadly or something would be more fitting.

Titles are cool tho, I heard people complain about sound effects tho when hovering?

The Highsec mining sites spawn way too little.
They are mined by 200 people in minutes and for new players it’s not transparent how to find them on them map for example. If only one of them spawns every few hours, new players will struggle to find them without knowing how to use the map, what bulkward systems are, etc.

This means a bunch of Mackinaws are mining them out fast while new players will struggle to make any progress. The freelance job shows a few systems you go there and there is no sight of this ore… players might think they need to scan some ore anomaly or whatever to find it.
In short: Mining anomalies have the risk of spending new players time without any reward.

Idea: Spawn some smaller anomalies locked behind acceleration gate for pioneers and below or something so the multiboxers can’t get in. If you can’t bring a porpoise, it’s “not worth it” for veterans but new players/casual players can still mine the ores.

PVP freelance jobs to kill navy-ships are a bit odd, potentially players could game it, only flying T1/T2 in fw to make it really hard for the other side to complete these missions.
In general the biggest RISK in my opinion is that these missions will be designed in a way where an objective is IMPOSSIBLE to archive statistically with the number of active players, etc.

Prominently showing achievement points on our character stats window has the potential to shoehorn EVE gameplay into a set of hard-coded grinds instead of letting us experience the full freedom that a sandbox offers.

It (negatively) reminds me of the ‘xp grind’ I used to do in RuneScape and I was hoping I left that kind of grind-based achievement flaunting gameplay behind by going to EVE.

I think it’s not a bad thing for the players who want external motivation to keep themselves busy in EVE, but can you please allow the rest of us to turn the visibility of achievements off, and allow us to hide our own achievements for others?

I agree 100%…

Ever since the Triglavian Invasion fiasco happened, I’ve always said that forcing players in a sand box game to do scripted content is not a good thing…

Looking through the achievements (is there a complete list somewhere?) it appears all achievements I see are grind-based achievements, encouraging repetitive gameplay.

“Grind rat kills” “grind ISK on market” “Grind relic or data sites” etc.

Is it possible to add achievements too which encourage players to experiment with new gameplay too?

Like “Shot an Autothysian lancer”, “produced P4 on a planet”, “built a capital ship”?

I think it could be fun if an achievement system encourages players to experience more of the game rather than grinding repetitive tasks for a title.

Another piece of feedback: could you consider counting m3 mined for mining-related achievements instead of units?

Image taken from a corp-member:

2.500.000 units of ore when I mine Arkanor or Bistot at 16m3 in null sec is 40 million m3.

At a reasonable pace of 50m3/s mining an hour a day that would take a character in null sec 222 days.

If I were to mine mercoxit (40m3) would take 556 days
(Which ignores that mining mercoxit happens at a lower yield so it would take even longer).

Compare those times to mining Veldspar (0.1) in high security space or Exordium in the exact same ship: this is done in 1.4 days.

222 days for null sec mining, less than 2 days for high sec.

Surely this is a big mistake to make null sec mining 160 times as slow as high sec mining?

I hope this is an oversight?

Please consider counting m3 instead of units for mining-related achievements so that all parts of space are treated equally for achievements.

Alternatively, scratch this achievement and add multiple ore-specific achievements so you can properly balance units per ore so that the larger units don’t require a ridiculous 160 times as much time to complete.

Sorry, this made me laugh this morning (not to poke fun at your plight, but when does high-sec ever get an edge up on null-sec for anything?)

Grind is what people demand, grind is what people get. We can consider ourselves lucky that CCP has not yet turned SP generation into a grind akin to Albion.

I agree too regarding the military campaigns; I started a longer post in General before I found this, should have read harder :downcast_face_with_sweat:

Military Campaigns fundamentally flawed?

I have a few issues with this event, in the main UI for the ToW tab to see what empires to choose from it cuts off their body and you can only see their heads with no name of the empire being shown - though you can figure it out by color in the background but that is annoying.

Unless there is a flaw in the objectives, which I believe is the main event, I can only complete 1 PvE mission for the remainder of the campaign? That is ridiculous and its not even worth advertising as part of this campaign. If we can only complete one objective that is not repeatable why should we do this campaign again? It seems to be impossible to complete and not worth while to pursue.

Ha I understand what you mean.

But I can think of some examples. High sec allows players to play in relative safety without having to put effort in building (or joining) a social structure as CONCORD automates the vengeance response when hostiles kill you. High sec also has an easier time killing NPCs in sites as the enemies are a lot less tough. High sec can earn LP for dailies, or do missions where sov null sec has no access to missions at all. High sec has easy access to markets like Jita or Amarr, while null sec has to put much more effort in logistics as part of their play.

Mind, I’m not saying null sec has it hard or complaining about it, just that there are some differences.

But until now none of the differences where that the game allows HS players to do a task in less than two days yet requires null sec players to spend 222 days to do the same thing.

The thing I love about EVE and what keeps making me return is that this game is not all about grinding for progression.

I’ve played Albion for a bit and while it was a fun game, I did not like the grind.

Same here. In EVE, you only have to play hours to make ISK if you want lots of ISK. In Albion you have to play many, many more hours or risk a lot more items and progress to be able to use any tools, weapons, gear and make currency to afford that. I have over 100 hours in Albion and can only use a higher level Fire Staff, robes, some harvesting gear. I am very glad that I do not have to do that in EVE. Here, I can just wait a bit, do something with what I can already use and after a few hours, days or sometimes weeks, can do a new, bigger thing. That’s very liberating.

I decided to try everything, and I picked mining for yesterday. As I am not a dedicated miner, I have a venture from the career agents and that’s it. t seems anything not pew pew is gearing towards veterans only. Even if you make a small hull site the sheer m3 requirements for the ore makes it impractical to move without a large scale transport. Add an acceleration gate and it’s even worse. Even the crystalline residue stuff that functions as trader currency can’t be turned in with a venture if you want to purchase anything other than the cheapest of trader items due to ore bay limits. Lots of containers being dumped in those event fields and ventures going yellow taking people’s “jet canned” ore 5Km3 by 5Km3 in Onnamon seeing as many just want event credit but can’t be bothered to blue/abandon their containers. They probably don’t even know about the traders as CCP does such a horrible job conveying anything in-game.

Would be much better if they got Fleet Ordinance LP and could just buy those SKINS through that LP store. They are the same SKINS anyway and this way people have apparel they could buy too. Why is there a consistent LP store in existence that nobody can get LP for? This is the time! Anyway, I feel all the factions should get that instead of Navy LP as it unfavorably favors Gallente and Caldari whose hubs are navy owned. Whereas Minmatar and Amarr aren’t.

Nope. This has been brought up many times before.

Sadly, they are not interested in feedback, but rather, bug reports and game breaking snafus.

Either one would work for me. And if they could remove the character portrait rescaling while they’re at it, that would be nice too.
