Video | Lost 16 bil by tanking gankers for 42 secs in Uedama - why Concord didn't help?

Ganking is a part of the game, that’s fine. I congratulated Prime Admiral for the form-up.

I scouted and prepared ahead of time. I calculated that I can tank 30 secs and a bit more, which I did! But my Avalanche still died, in 42 secs, and the gankers were still not in their pods. How long would have taken Concord to help a bro out?

Any ideas?

not all attack at the same time. some are already dead long before the 42 seconds…

Next time split your loads and make multiple trips, and don’t rely on Concord in a 0.5 system with tonnes of ships all around you.

The clowny music isn’t helping btw.

staggered attacks allegedly, though i suspect the dude was using scripts to control his ship, its all the rage with losers like this.

42 seconds?

Some timestamps throughout the video:

0:13 - First tackle by Caracal
0:26 - First redbox by arriving Taloses and Catalysts
0:36 - Slowest redbox by arriving Taloses and Catalysts (according to overview, there’s more that I cannot see)
0:52 - Capsule ejected

Looks like you’ve been tanking them for 16 to 26 seconds. By the time your ship is destroyed the earliest ones had already been killed by CONCORD and were floating in their pods, like the Caracal pilot Jeq:

But the majority was still alive.

Your ship could have lived for this amount of time:

- Talos hot dps: 1894
- Catalyst hot dps: 813
- Caracal hot dps: 428
- Talos total: 9x 1894 = 17046
- Catalyst total: 19x 813 = 15447
- Total: 32921 dps
- Avalanche hot EHP (versus void): 739k

→ 22.4 seconds.

Now I don’t know if the gankers use boosters or implants, I can imagine they do. If so, you would live even less time.

According to what I see in the video with attacks staggered over 16 to 26 seconds before you died, that number sounds about right to me.

My guess is that you need stronger defences to survive an attack of this size in Uedama, but there’s nothing that says the attackers wouldn’t have brought a stronger force to kill you. After all, any ship can be destroyed in EVE with enough determination.

This is rather low and could be improved.

Your ship was carrying 15 billion of cargo in an 1.5 billion ISK ship defended by fittings worth 20 million ISK.

It would not be unreasonable to bump that fit up to something worth carrying 15 billion ISK cargo.

For example I’m looking at improvements of your fit worth 927 million ISK that bumps the EHP versus Void from 739k to 985k EHP. You could live 33% longer by spending a fraction of the value you lost.

Or you could consider to add a 2.5b high-grade nirvana pod for 2.5b ISK on top of that, which still is only a fraction of the value you lost, to obtain an EHP of 1.25M, increasing your length to live by 69% compared to your 20m fit.

Options, there are multiple. You chose to be cheap!

is asking an awful lot of new players…

That’s a great breakdown, thank you. My confusion was also from Concord that attacked their tackler, and then just sat there for the entire fight doing nothing. I know that when Concord is on grid they attack other criminals within a few seconds but it didn’t happen.

As some others pointed out, the other gankers had concord on their way for them, so current present concord didn’t attack cause of that. Which is pretty ridiculous since like this you can carry on the ganking for some time actually.

This is, and always has been, true.
CONCORD need to arrive, lock targets and shoot/scram/jam them, this takes some time.

Upgrading to faction modules does nothing to discourage ganking. It only increases the likely-hood of it actually happening, with or without cargo.

You might have an argument here.

While you can never be absolutely safe from ganks. Limiting the incentive for a gank to be profitable can have a huge impact in the likely-hood of it. Some do it just for the heck of it, some for Padding their KB statistics, however most certainly does it as a valid way to make profit.

In many cases it’s one player with many accounts, L.E.G.I.O.N is an example of such a player. There may be other players in his Corp/Alliance, I have no knowledge one way or the other.

The TL:DR of it is that you probably shouldn’t fly with much more than 2bn in cargo value, in any freighter. Just look at MarkeeDragon’s YT and search his content for “Ganked” to see how many and often people take the “easy” solution.

Carrying 16 billion in 985k EHP versus carrying 15 billion in 740k EHP does make the gank slightly less profitable as they need a lot more ships to kill it for barely more loot and is an improvent, I’d say.

If you’re going to carry tens of billions you might as well spend more than 20 million on a fit.

Kinda rude tbh
