The bet was laid out, accepted as is and that is it. The fact that the participating people failed to iron out any details is, at this point, completely irrelevant. The bet is clear, all details are set (none, but that is their fault) and that is how it works.
Any additional interpretations or details added after the fact are invalid, because they are not part of the bet. The bet is clear, the rules are clear, any additional details are irrelevant. You stick to a bet by respecting the wording, and as the wording is straight forward, there is nothing here to argue about.
Otherwise any and everyone always could come and decide to somehow change running bets by insisting on interpretations of words and meanings. Only assholes do that.

If you go back through Natural Clonekillers forum history he has made bets or had events offering isk publicly on the C&P thread and every time it comes time to pay up he never does XD this is just another glorious example of him scamming more bets

If you believe CloneKillers definition of VMG ‘standing strong’ included ‘stolen from me and run by someone else against my will’ then you are the one adding additional interpretations not I.
Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that is not what he meant.
It is ludicrous and hilarious to suggest otherwise. This is a court of law, not a clown show, good sir.
It is not irrelevant who made the bet, when, where and why.
Context is everything.
It was an act of defiance, a vow to remain unbowed and unchanged, a promise to stand undaunted against all foes, to weather all storms and survive intact. Then VMG was ripped from his grasp and he was left with nothing but memories.

Both parties agreed to the bet. Neither of them considered, or expressed their consideration, that within six months time the alliance might actually change hand.
There is no context there, because no context was given. Every context YOU give it comes from YOU and is irrelevant to the facts at hand: The written, and agreed to, bet.
What if exceptional circumstances would have prevented CloneKiller to take care of his alliance? Death in the family? Natural desaster? What if someone else took over the responsibilities and succeeds? Would Alocer then not have to pay 10 billion isk, simply because it was not CloneKiller’s personal doing?
No. He still would have to pay the money, because the bet clearly talks about the alliance itself. Nothing beyond that matters, otherwise every single possible im-/-possibility could eventually be used to sneak out of bets.
We can not have that. That is why standards exist. That is why bets are always taken as is, otherwise people would just argue around it endlessly … just like all the carebears continuously argue back and forth about things they do not wish to accept.
They instead come up with new definitions, or question them …
… create imaginary, romantic, to-feelings-appealing scenarios …
… and they ignore what really matters in favour of what they think matters.
So … pretty much just like you did in your post.

No. Alocer would still have to pay, as it is worded in the bet.
I understand your point, but it is seriously problematic.
You have two options:
- You honour your bet.
- Or not.
The reasoning itself is meaningless. “Oh he does never honour his bets, so why would I?” only puts you onto the same level. It is important to disregard the person in favour of having personal standards. If you open yourself up to “reasons” then you will not have any proper, personal standards, because reasons can and will change depending on the given circumstances.
Please understand that I am actually not taking any sides here, despite how it might look like.

Incorrect. The context is the aforementioned who, when, where and why.
It is not ‘my’ context.
This context is no creation of mine. It is the very clear pre-existing set of circumstances surrounding the proposal and acceptance of the bet.
It is real. it was there long before I came along.
This context provides us with evidence for the scope of the bet and the circumstances under which it’s payment becomes due.
Let me give you a very simple example of the importance of context versus ‘the words’.
If I am reported for saying ‘I am going to kill you!’ and upon further investigation it turns out that at the time we were both locked into a deadly spaceship duel in a game, that is one thing. If it turns out that at the time I was hiding in the bushes in your back garden with a machete, that is an entirely different matter.
Who, when, where and why.
By your logic, the context would not matter, only the words. No common sense would be applied, no analysis of the who, when, where and why. I would be guilty of wanting to murder you in real life because I uttered the words ‘I am going to kill you!’ no matter when, where or why.

We all know the context in this case. Pretending you don’t know what it is (or actually not knowing what it is) or claiming that it doesn’t matter is charmingly naive but not sufficient grounds to overturn the verdict of this court.

Clone bet they’d be “standing strong” in 6 months and was promptly ousted (alongside 90% of the alliance) in a successful Coup d’état.
Clone couldn’t have conceivably lost that bet any harder.

Oh well here we go.
The Court of Crime and Punishment is in session.
The Court has had time to review the evidence and has found the following.
Both sides are guilty. Neither of you have taken the time to do an epic write up of this story. There are maybe 30 word replies in the most informative posts. Both sides are fined 10bil isk payable to ‘Noragen Neirfallas’ or a good story of what happened. Should a good story be provided we will review this case again.
