I think that if the wardec system were to be changed, it should go one of two ways or perhaps both ways! It could go to both sides of the war needing to meet in a neutral system and have a small ceremony of surrender for the wardec to end. Or it could go to not being tied to needing to own a structure at all!
I personally believe that if a player thinks they are ready to open and run a corporation, they should be prepared for, shall we call it, hostile takeover.
This happens in that video game called, “ Real Life “ all the time. Competition can be friendly, but when you involve money a lot of friendly people suddenly become unfriendly. I personally would like to see wardec re-opened to all player corporations, as well as a surrender to require a formal ceremony. Losing, perhaps, would then become the lesser humiliation!
A surrender, in my opinion, should not only require a formal ceremony but should also require handoff of all corporation assets to the side not surrendering. Only corporation assets though, not personal.
A loss, in my opinion, should prohibit the losing side from being able to re-open a new corporation for 365 days. That would include all members of that corporation as well. This should also result in corporation assets all being handed over to the winning side.
All of this overseen by Concord so that no skulldaggery could occur! A wardec is a battle of wits and strength, and should be conducted like gentlemen or gentlewomen.
Yes, I increasingly think its crazy…..and for me the solution is to have two types of war.
The current type in which one requires a war HQ or at least some type of structure. These can go on for a number of days due to timers on different elements of the structures…and even then there’s a 24 hour ‘cooling off’ period where shooting can still be done. One of these wars might last 3 days or more.
A ‘limited’ war, with no structures, where one pays a fee for short war duration periods as short as half an hour or an hour. Declarable only at corp level. And, if the enemy destroys any of your ships then the war is over and you are not allowed to declare war on them again for 2 or 3 days. That gives an incentive for well planned and quick surgical strikes. I’d make the minimum fee at least 500m ISK, so these wars would not be an alternative to ganking mining barges or cheap haulers.
