I know similar ideas have been floated before. I don’t care, I’m going to toss my thoughts of how to improve the game play.
ACL Warehouse access. Sort of like Corperation office, but instead it is something an indivdual pilot could purchase. From there they can control access to the warehouse via ACLs. That is the pure and simple basics of it. Pilot buys a warehouse, applies an ACL to it. If you are on the list you get that level of access. It is like just one gaint “container”, you can drop things in and pull stuff out if you have the correct permissions.
If you want to go beyond basics. Have the warehouse custimizable with “Service Modules”. Hell make the service modules have a chance to drop if/when a station gets blown up.
Industrai Material Mod - Station must have industrial/Research/Reaction module installed.
Allows the pilot to select warehouse as material input for jobs.
Research Mod
Allows the pilot to select warehouse as input location for blueprints.
Its a rough idea. But something where you can ACL access to a place where you can put stuff to be shared/view/used via ACLs.
A full permission system (ACL) would be best, but it would put too much strain on the server because it would need to check access every time someone docks.
Instead, you could create a Hangar ID with a password and share it with people you trust. Some players might lose access or get hacked, and CCP wouldn’t need to support these hangars. If you lose the password you lose the items inside, or if the ID/Password falls into the wrong hands, you get no reimbursements.
Sems like a great way to get shared hangars without it being 0 risk and also without it causing much server lag.
It seems like ACL hangars can resolve when the user logs in, and not on every dock. Permission changes would only take effect after the affected character relogs but
The problem isn’t that no one has thought of hangar-sharing. The real issue is that no one has come up with a good way to implement it yet, and/or the devs are being stubborn about it.
ACL hangars were suggested many times before, but according to the CSM, they cause too much lag. That’s why hangar sharing as a proper feature is currently stuck.
