I like the idea of toggles for a lot of the UI components. They should all be turned on by default, obviously, for new players, but I like the idea of making much more of the UI include multiple options, up to and including just turning them off.

I don’t have a “feature previews” tab.

I like Photon UI and hope it will be soon in the game.

BUT I need changes/settings or new visualization in Ship HUD. It’s so difficult to managing modules. Its hard to understand is module working or not by low red glowing on one side of an module icon. It’ll be grate if it will be big red cross on icon when it turned off, like in Echoes, or something better. Talking with my friends we sure that novelty in Ship HUD much more expected and needed (at least by newcomers).

And I hope Ukrainian language interface will be in a game.

I`m newcomer in Eve Online. I came in from Eve Echoes.

stop. just stop. we want optimization, expedience, and easy of use. The new UI is the exact opposite of this. Wasted space, windows blending together because of the flat, monotonous design with no defining boundaries other than the lightbar at the top. Want to unify the UI? It already was! get rid of this useless crap and try asking the people that ACTUALLY PLAY what would be an improvement. People are not leaving the game because the UI looks like a spreadsheet, but they will if this unplayable UI goes live.

Sooo we want a wizard guided UI?

Only on Singularity for now and you need to fully login as in choose a character.

The window padding are too massive, less useful information is placed.
As a designer, I understand that it’s beautiful, but as an EVE pilot, I need more useful information. So that the free space is not spent, just on prettiness.

Eve isn’t a text based adventure game, it needs prettiness.

Can’t the user be left with a choice?
Option:
Big border / Small border

Good afternoon.
It can be seen that a lot of effort has been invested in the development of this interface. In general, it looks more modern, and visually better than the old interface.
As for me, everything looks good, it just needs some editing. I think that the community and I can help improve the interface.

What do I like:

  • More modern look
  • Everything
  • Illumination strip of the active window

What I do not like:

  • Very large Noecom size. When this panel can be made smaller, it visually looks better. Especially true on a large monitor.
  • Very large indents in different menus. For example, a direction finder.
In general, there are many places where you can remove empty spaces in the interface windows.
  • It is hard to see how much the hold in the ship is loaded. Not enough contrast.
  • In the menu for transferring things, when you specify the quantity, the image of the numbers is slightly shifted.
  • The exit button from the dock should be clearly visible. For example, now it is yellow, and it is clearly visible.
  • In general, many buttons can be made smaller.

Wishes:
Would like more color options. For example: black, gray, silver.

Thank you very much for the work you have done.

You really shouldn’t be fat shaming the UI.

@CCP_Junison Good to see that this stuff is happening and also nice to hear about the agenda for addressing consistency and cognitive load.

I was wondering if this current effort at improving the UI might be intended as a platform to then attempt some more radical redesigns of different aspects of the UI? Design systems for different UI components are great, but the EVE UI also has bigger issues related to cognitive load that go beyond spacing and consistency. Having a consistent design across multiple boxes of rows of text sounds good (sort of), but needing multiple boxes of rows of text is never going to be good for cognitive load, no matter how well they are designed.

Also, a concern with some of what I’ve seen, so far, is that there seems to be a bit of an arbitrary attempt to have uniform sizing and spacing of components, regardless of where the components might sit in a hierarchy of information and interactions. I might be wrong about that as it was just my first impression.

I’m hoping that the Photon UI is a first step in a process towards more ambitious UI improvements. Some of the EVE UI past improvement efforts have felt like minor tweaks, or just reskinning of a creaking UI.

It just an minor inconvenience at times but, is it possible to add a bit more space between the information icon and the scroller (in the red box)?

I was just trying to insure my ship on sisi with the new UI and i could not find the point for insurance past Bronze, and clicking the insure button did nothing i ended up hitting enter.
Feels like the ui elements are not lined up properly so clicking on things are bit off.

I play in windowed mode at 4k.

And here is another oddity with my fleet hangar when i dock up

All ships are in a column, and i have to nudge the left edge of the window
to make it go into the normal view.

Hello,

I tested the new UI on Singularity. I say bravo. Overall consistency is better. The blue line highlights the active window. I don’t know if it’s a different font or a better contrast, but I find the text more readable.
However, I noticed one thing in the purchase window on the market, the mention “Use the portfolio of the corporation” encroaches on the button “Buy”. Sometimes instead of buying we check the box Corporate Portfolio…
But for the rest, I have nothing but congratulations. And sorry for my bad english : it’s a french to english translation from Reverso.
Regards,
Nel

In the Market buy window using the Photon UI, there is a problem with the positioning of the “Use corp account Master Wallet” checkbox and label. It needs to be positioned above the buy box or when you click buy in the wrong spot, you enable the corp wallet. It also should be in a position where the text doesn’t overwrite the UI button.

After post I noticed the post above saying the same thing. Leaving because of the image showing the issue.

I dont think your approach to making a new UI is good. Because you are not implementing it with all the other windows, typography, sizes, spacings and everything else that is the framework of eve.

I think that revamping the UI might be good, but you need to understand that UI is not just "buttons, formfields and radio/check boxes). While you may have a component based approach you need to test it with compositions and implementation beforehand. If simplicity is something you want to go for; making “simple designs” is not the approach. Because you EVE is complex, and all the windows and customizations we currently have in terms of HUD/UI is what is helping players get trough their EVE-playstyles, so buy enforcing new buttons it does not help the problem you guys want to fix.

If you want to make the UI more simple, you need to have test it properly with everything first.

EVE has for a long time worked because the UI has been pretty good overall for a game like this.
If you change the language of it, just because you want to make it simple, you mind end up making it complex instead.

A good approach to everything typography related is that, you should not see or feel the typography, it should just be there. You should see the message, not the context. That is when typography works on its own, the best.

Great typography is timeless, timeless typography is great.

You need to develop a design system, not a UI.
