What actually happens when you block Hypernet

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has contacted CCP and blocked hypernet as to how it actually looks like in game, namely:

  1. Does it filter all links? (ie, do I still have to filter chats for url=hypernet) or will links not appear at all when it is blocked?

  2. Is menu option still present or does it disappear? (Neocom → Finance → Hypernet Relay)

Basically, I want to know if it’s completely gone, or if the nudges still remain and it just blocks you from placing bets.

I didn’t know this was an option. It really seems like Hypernet ought to be an opt-in toggle on the account page, and unless the player has actively turned it on, there should be no hint to its existence in the game proper.

It is not in all jurisdictions afaik, but there is option where I live. I would like to know how exactly it works, as the info is a bit sparse. I have hidden message configuration set to url=hypernet almost everywhere, which limits the spam, but having tons of accounts and alts, it always slips through, so nuking it account wise seems like sounder option. Main issue is config is per channel, so while you can filter all locals at once, you still have npc corps, alliances, random places … peoples bio XD I just want it gone man.

But to request the disabling, I will have to do it on all accounts via tickets, so really want to know how the end product looks like before I commit to it. If the spam and nudges remain, only to disable betting on the final window, I may just keep blocking the damn urls XD

I do know you can block hypernet links with chat filters, you don’t need to block hypernet for that:

Yes, this does it for the links, but it is not as straightforward, as the config is per channel , the only thing you can nuke somewhat globally is “all locals” and not just specific. But that does not prevent you from seeing these links in Viziam, SWA or wherever else.

Yeah, I’ve helped a lot of people block hypernet spam that way. Makes Jita a whole other community.

How many channels are you in that get spammed with hypernet links?

I’m usually in my alliance channel, corp channel, alliance’s help dojo channel, rookie help channel, fleet, some fleet organization channels for things like logi, links or fits and local chat.

Only local chat has hypernet links.

If there’s another channel you’re in, just add the filter there too, there can’t be too many of those, right?

So, in the name of science I had suport disable it on one of my accounts to actually try it. Pros - it was actually fast. Opened a ticket, asked to disable hypernet, was done within an hour.

Now, how it looks → The relay link in finance is gone. The spam is sadly not, so channel filters are still necessary :frowning:

Overall, I rate this implementation 7/10 . Would like the hypernet urls to not render at all, but it’s nice they actually disable the whole offer display. I guess when I have time, I’ll go over all the accounts to do it.
