If only ganks were made less time-sensitive anti-ganking could be much more effective than today. 20 seconds is very little time to react and start killing gankers, imagine how much ganker dps an anti-ganker could stop if they had more time before CONCORD intervened?
HS Campers like Thrashers and Tornados can be Gank if AG’s are serious. But they didn’t do it. Their +5.0 status are more important to them.. They can even Gank those ships that bumps freighters at jump gates
Thats exactly what I mean. A player who wants to go a “Law Enforcement Carreer” shouldn’t be forced to “gank” (aka using unlawful methods) to play his role.
There are more ways. The point is: None of them is rewarding comparable to the profits gankers can make with their path of choice. The paradox in a system of organized Law Enforcement is: They do their job best if nothing happens. But thats why the Government simply has to pay them.
EVE has no system of payment or reward for players who prevent ganks or hunt known gankers. But that would be an absolute requirement for AG to work. No Police Force is ever free.
You only get a killmail if you shoot the gankers after they have already begun their attack (if you want to stay lawful). However thats the most inefficient way to AG at all, because that simply won’t safe most targets.
The most efficient way is “being present in numbers that make sure the gankers can’t bring their target down in time cost-efficiently” - which means the gankers simply won’t gank or move the area.
You can achieve this by having overwhelming RemoteRep present or by having enough Damage to kill the Ganker’s ship long before CONCORD arrives, so they can’t deal damage to their target as calculated. The AGs did succeed, but they spent time, risked ships and gained nothing. That is the method used against DPS-Ganking, done with Cats/Coercers, Talos, Bombers etc… Again: Best Job is done if you made sure nothing happened. But EVE doesn’t reward that. Any Government has to, to make sure there are Police Officers doing the Job.
The other method against Tornado/Rupture/Thrasher Gankers who use alpha to kill targets is to permanently and repeatedly bump them away from their Gankspot. These ships usually have bad tracking and no Propmod, so as soon as you moved them only a few km out of spot or accelerated them to a significant speed, they simply can’t hit their targets well enough to punch through. They rely on good hits with their Artillery and bumping them ruins that. But again, AG spends time and gains nothing from that, even if he successfully prevents the ganks.
Oh here we go! Everyone tell the queen that we’re all too stupid to understand the intricate complexities of warping to fleet member in a disposable ship and pushing the F1 button after pre-heating your one weapon group!
Even if miners know how Ganking works. They still die in the process. How that makes them? Do they have other ways to minimize Ganking in HS other than ranting, cursing and making threats?
Outside of that the reason is some people just like hurting other people. Hurt people want to hurt people. EVE attracts people with mental issue. Go figure. All the miner and explorer kills serve no other purpose. I include even non-hisec in this category because attacking ships that can’t fight back is pretty much the same thing regardless of sec rating. But I guess it gives them some threat. There would practically be none, especially for explorers, otherwise. At hostile NPC can show up to mining sites and belts.
