What do you think would bring eve into a new golden age

The original forums from back in the day would be a good start.

Getting rid of hs pvp would break the economy of eve. Reward with no risk is a terible idea. Defo nope from me

So, I’m not allowed to have an opinion? Just making sure…

The old forum archive is a good read and quite entertaining. There are posts whining about high sec ganking in the very first month of the game back in 2003…

This is a very good point: the few ads that exist not only cater to just one type of customer, it’s almost always something that requires an innate understanding of the game which to anyone new is just going to sound like weird mumbo jumbo.

Also, the narrated NPE is (now that I’ve done it a few times) not good: it’s just dumping exposition onto new players under the guise of “story” but it’s really just an endless stream of uninterruptible boring cutscenes where they don’t get to play. They’re forced to endure and it’s not interesting, instead it’s extremely long winded and doesn’t really explain anything at all nor does it entice to play (if you even make it through it).

The amount of people going “I skipped the tutorial” in Rookie has gone up tremendously even though the actual number of newbies seems to have gone down. Normally I’d scoff at people who skip intros and tutorials, in this case I can’t blame them.

Even so, the tutorial does serve a purpose. I see new players that skip it all the time and the first questions they ask in rookie help are “How do I move?” “How do I undock?”. Well, genius, if you hadn’t skipped the tutorial you’d know how…

This being EVE it’s completely normal for newbies to wonder how to undock or move even if they DID go through that tutorial. Having to endure at least a full hour of endless yapping where you simply phase out and then, in between, a “click here to undock”, “approach this” and “orbit that” probably isn’t the best way to do things or showcase basic game play.

It’s just not good enough: it’s too boring, doesn’t explain enough and doesn’t really teach anything other than “oooh asteroids look awesome” followed by “where’s the uninstall button”.

If new players were given a proper tutorial about all the various nuances of EVE, it would be 12 hours long and they’d quit it anyway…

No it does not. I just needs them to actually be in control of their ship, instead of what is effectively a cut scene, and have them fly around repeating the procedures a few times building upon what they learned. The tutorial doesn’t even show how to warp, they have to align and then after a while they get fleet warped.

The very last thing the tutorial does is direct you to your first career agent, and you have to undock and warp there yourself. If you skip the tutorial, you won’t even know how to do that or that the career agents even exist…

Long story short, it takes a certain type of player and a certain amount of intelligence to play and enjoy EVE. Most new players don’t even take advantage of the myriad sources of information, guides, and instructional step-by-step videos of EVE gameplay, and instead resort to pissing and moaning and asking a billion questions instead…

To a degree, yes. At the same time one can CHOOSE to make it difficult, boring and terrible… or not.

Besides, not really sure we should take pointers from someone who put bounties on newbies knowing full well it will probably freak them out as they assume they’re now outlaws and can be hunted by anyone.

That is the case whether they have a bounty or not. Welcome to EVE…

You can’t be this fcking moronic, although in your case… it’s believable.

In most games where you can get a bounty it means “you’re now being targeted and hunted by everyone else and can be attacked without repercussion”. You going “ololol that’s EVE” doesn’t help them nor are they supposed to fully understand what EVE entails. It’ll freak them out and for good reason, they don’t even KNOW how to do basic things and now they’re hunted?

I’ve seen people start a new character because they got a bounty, simply because they didn’t understand (which being less than an hour into the game makes fcking sense).

And there it is. Ad hominem personal attacks. The purview of those with no valid argument. Was wondering how long that would take. You may sit down now…

Only if you pay me.

No, it’s simply pointing out a fact. You spend your time in Rookie to troll day 1 newbies, if that’s not a red flag then what is.
