What is "Service progressionSvc"?

my fresh installed game client on Win7 crashes with the unconcrete ALError: ALResult(80004005) at this service. no explaining web resources found for the service. anyone knows what it is for?

<.starting launcher
<.logging in to my account
<.starting game client
<.whole system freezes
<.ctrl+alt+del for task manager
<.kill crashpad_handler
<.kill eve_crashmon
<.kill (eve?) exefile.exe
<.system unfreezes
<.launcher not affected, still healthy

Installed Eve two times. About a week ago and today. Freezing behavior is repeatable. Always the same reason in launcherlog: Service progessionSVC throws unhandled exception.

  • Updates the launcher received today had no effect on the bug.
  • Created a fresh, 2nd account today. Same issue with “progessionSvc”.

Windows 10 was a free upgrade for Windows users, updating Windows to one that is supported may fix it, Windows 7 is going the way XP is, dead. Same with DirectX 9.

You will save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run. Either Windows 10+ or Linux. Windows 7 is no longer worth keeping for the most part if you want to do use recent software.

" Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit"

I hope they raise the mininum to Windows 10 as Microsoft give that out free to every existing Windows user and dump W7 mininum and DirectX9 should go too.

I have as much sympathy for Windows 7 users as I have for Windows XP users, I held out on W7 for as long as it was viable, it is no longer viable, it is now a liabilty. Same goes for W8 and W8.1. They are at end of life support.

Linux or W10+ or Mac. I think it is crunch time to pick a replacement if you don’t have a special need for specific software, suitable for that version. For new software, imo it is a waste of effort. User count is declining.

W10 was a free upgrade if you want to stick with Windows.

Patch Tuesday, Exploit Wednesday. They just diff the patches to discover the exploit. Plus, architectures change and it becomes old technical baggage. Your problems will only get worse and cost in effort and time for keeping it running higher. Everytime you file bugs on software, you are probably going to get the standard response of we won’t support it anymore.

Windows 7, 8, 8.1 started dying in 2015.

It’s game over for those versions.

W10 will hold out a few years like W7 did once W11 is out then take the same decline.

No sane developer is going to jump to support those platforms unless they get paid a lot.

"While we would recommend upgrading to Windows 10 for security reasons, the EVE client should still run on Windows 7. "
