I am planning on hunting folks in null. I am going to dual box a Loki and Proteus, both covert ops and nullified (also with cap booster to counter neuts). Engagement range at 30 km. Warp disrupt (from my Proteus) and dual web (from my Loki). DPS is ~750 each, 1500 total. Probably hunting solo ratters. If things look hairy, or bad ships come on grid, I think I should be able to warp off due to my long engagement range. My question is, what is the counter to my proposed tactic? What would I need to look out for?
cloaky prot’s and loki’s waiting for you to decloak on a ratter
Intel channels emptying systems before you enter them, cynos that land supers on your face.
Could I warp away from a super when I see the cyno lit?
You have time to run.
Is this a common defense null corps use?
Come to Delve and find out
I’d assume a fast tackle ship that can warp in and close distance quickly and live long enough to scram one of your ships so that heavy tackle and dps can warp right on top of you.
Something like a Malediction for initial tackle followed by a heavy tackle Thorax or something of the like followed by DPS. Lot less isk risked… but more pilots needed.
it definitely happens once you camp for long enough
The nullified t3s have a very poor align time, nearly battleship poor. Be careful as a good tackle can uncloak and lock you at gate.
Geez, I hadn’t even looked at that. 11+s, that’s terrible. Thanks for the tip.
It should be less than 11s I think you might have your mwd on in pyfa/simulation.
Yep, that’s true, thanks again. I’m clearly in the theory-craft as opposed to implementation phase of my plan.
Don’t need 2 cruisers to hunt ratters, most common ratting ship is a VNI, anyone flying bigger fish will be able to melt your t3 (carriers/ boxed blingy pirate bs/ marauders with cyno backup).
Boxing makes it much harder too, need to manage tank, tackle, dps on all accounts at same time. Easy to burn out something, forget to shoot, coast out of range etc.
Scout/ tackle + dps would be much better. Ceptor or fast aligning loki for tackle (+ship scanner). With this your dps ship doesn’t need to be nullified or even cloaky and you can go close range with blasters upon confirming it’s not bait.
You should try research the work of Stunt Flores.
He was mastering the art of ratters hunting.
He seemed to use a stratios to great effect, sometimes with the support of an astero. Thanks for the link.
Astero is great, very fast and versatile. Could also think of using something like a “non-combat” scanning ship for scouting or initial tackle. t3c hunter will light up intel channels, ceptor is a typical scout/ tackle… A Buzzard would go mostly unnoticed.
My Loki alt is a good scanner/scout so I could easily do a buzzard/proteus team. Thanks!
Interdictors.
Even though I’m nullified?
