Guess we’ll have to pine for a T2 Abbadon-based hull…
It is funny, but it is not always right. See, says, Tempest has 6 Turret hardpoints 5% bonus to dmg and 7,5% to rof by each level of racial battleship skill, right?
Max would be 25% to dmg and 37,5% to rof. 25% is 1/4 right?
Says, apocalypse has 8 turret hardpoints.
6/8 =0.75 which is 3/4 which means that 1/4 of DPS is missing. 6+2=8 which means that we can add DPS bonus by adding +2 additional turrets, no BS 5 skill needed.
What about rof bonus? Yes u will lose it and still rof works well only for Autocannons for Arty it doesn’t just cos turret cycle is to long to feel that bonus. That’s what I’m talking about
Also, I want to apologise. I didn’t mention it was PVE topic. So, sorry for bringing warped pvper POV here, gentlemen.
Beam Abaddon works, with a micro jump drive, faction standard crystals and a small armor rep.
TLDR: The"point" is that the Abaddon looks cool, but outside of a fleet doctrine it has extremely limited use (because there are better ships - like a Paladin).
Small Armor Rep hurts me on a deeply personal level.
You’re not the only one raising the issue of the Ammar ships. It’s just that Abbadon is the essence of the problem. The advantage of laser turrets in the instant replacement of lenses to control the optimal range and endless lenses (and only in the T1 version) pales in comparison with their energy consumption, only 2 types of damage and the worst aiming speed in the range of guns. The problem here is not even in the ships themselves, but in the fact that the lasers themselves consume significantly more than the capacitor, and installing damage lenses also increases energy consumption by 50% (if memory serves me correctly).
I have already raised a similar topic here on the forum, but the result is 0. Apparently CCP doesn’t care about this problem, and apparently the players don’t either.
Read it if you’re interested. Changes in the energy consumption of Ammar laser ships are needed - #94 by Cyberius_Mnemon
Cyberius, if lasers are so problematic with their ‘high energy consumption’ and ‘worst aiming speed’ and lack of damage types, how would you explain the massive popularity of laser boats like Paladins, Revelations and Redeemers?
- The #1 dreadnought in the game is either the Revelation (/Navy issue) or the Zirnitra. Example, this massive dreadbomb last week: Battle Report Tool, which make the bulk of every dread fleet
- The #1 black ops battleship in the game is the Redeemer with every blops fleet consisting mainly of deemers, deemers and more deemers.
Example: this Wyvern kill a couple days ago
Now I’m not well known with Marauder usage, but as far as I know Paladins too are pretty popular. (But that might be a bias of living in Blood Raider space.)
How would you explain the massive popularity of those laser boats if lasers are so bad that their energy consumption and lack of damage selection outweighs their instant ammo selection and damage?
It looks to me like lasers are in a pretty damn good spot, possibly even too good for balance.
One consideration here - and it biases people’s view of Lasers: the skill limits on Alpha pilots really hit their capacitor performance and increase the demands placed on it.
You don’t get level V for any of the base capacitor skills, or for gunnery capacitor, or for warp drive, or for capacitor saving on the use of prop-mods. That makes Lasers feel like a bad option.
Lasers are a high skill level and, in return, effective weapon system.
So the problem is not with the ships themselves. The problem lies precisely in the laser turrets, which consume the energy of the captor in huge quantities.
And yes, do not forget about the increase in the energy consumption of the capacitor when installing, for example, the most expensive lenses (by 50% if I remember correctly)
If we talk about Revelation and the Redeemer, then look at it and get additional bonuses “Reducing the cost of activating the energy tower by 10%”
Redeemer also has a profile bonus of “10% energy consumption compared to Nosferatu and an energy neutralizer.” Of course, there will be fewer problems with the energy of the capacitor.
And the paladin is popular, simply because it is easier for him to close the problems with the energy of the capacitor due to the small number of guns. But that doesn’t mean you don’t need to fill up the middle slots with batteries.
And let me remind you, the author of the post was talking specifically about Abaddon. And it does have such problems, like other ships that do not have the profile feature of reducing the energy consumption of the capacitor.
If anything, I have Omega and my skills are upgraded to 5, but with almost all Ammar ships equipped with laser weapons, I encounter similar problems.
PS. The topic is still about PVE, not PVP.
Skill issue (and I don’t mean the ingame skills).
Sorry, Amarr ships are in a great spot currently, for good reasons Slicers, Crusaders, Absolutions, Oracles, Coercers, Confessors, Legions, Revelations, Paladins etc. are flown en masse and often superior than the other races variants (not always, but no ship should be always best).
I agree that they need very high skill to fly (ingame and soft) and from all turret systems I won’t recommend them for beginners, because you have to manually compensate the bad tracking and be absolutely careful with your capacitor management - but hell if you can do it, you perform gloriously. They don’t need a change at all, neither the ships nor the Lasers. And I can say that from a pretty experienced position when it comes to Amarr ships. Making them any stronger would be simply too much (even if that would benefit me, it would be not good for the game).
Returning old player so take with a bit of salt but.
The Abbadon was introduced to be the not-pve battleship. The Armaggedon, the old tier one battleship (The Armaggedon used to be a laser boat), was the general use. The Apocalypse the tier two was the fleet sniper and the Abbadon was the fleet brawler. It’s designed for passive tanking with big stonking lasers. There’s always tricks you can do. But the intent for the Abbadon. The point. Is a big Ammarrian battleship brick. At times its been the highest EHP subcap even. That gets capacitor from other people. That gets repairs from other people. And sits in their face firing lasers (and generally, not Tachs) while they fail to kill it back.
Skilled laser usage. Especially in PVE. Is a bit more complex than it seems. Frankly? While the T2 crystals are peak efficiency per shot. They’re often a poor choice in PVE. In mission running especially where you’re dropping into known ranges against known opposition Navy crystals, or even T1, can do you much better. Especially with heavy beams and ESPECIALLY with Tachs. The ability to switch crystals between shots is incredibly useful there. And it greatly alleviates capacitor concerns.
In addition of course, the Abaddon is a secondary drone boat. Having full flights of T2 drones makes life incredibly simpler for a mission running Abaddon. As well as maxed out armour skills. Fairly obvious points in general. But the Abaddon is a boat which -requires- all three core Ammarrian skills to fly effectively. Not just heavily benefits from them like boats with double laser or drone bonuses.
