I made a decent chunk of ISK in FW and now seems like a good time to dip out.
I can only play sporadically and so I’m usually alpha, but a couple times a year I might have enough time to spring for a month of omega. I’m specced into small Amarr ships with about 9.6M SP, and I’m looking for something else to do that wouldn’t require training into other races. I know there are limitations with Amarr vessels (i.e. damage type, tank options), so I’m just curious what types of content (if any) would play to their strengths, or put another way, would not be terribly inefficient since my time is precious to me.
Basic missions, combat exploration, abyssals. I’m sure I’m forgetting some options but those are the most obvious ones.
Missions are the most straight forward. Get quest from npc, kill npc, go back to NPC, get reward. lvl 1-2 pay crap, lvl 3 pay okish. lvl 3 requires a BC generally, for alpha.
Combat exploration is about flying around in space covering quite a few systems finding hidden sites, kill mobs and hope for fancy loot. More RNG so there are ups and downs, more interacting/competition with other players. Ship sizes destroyer or cruiser and bigger/badder sites don’t necessarily pay more so it’s fine to stay small. You could play for 3 hours and make 500 mil, you could also make nothing at all so you need to be ok with the concept of RNG.
Abyssals are sweaty tryhard combat pve, high risk high reward where yoloing is a really bad idea, can/will be hazardous for your implants. Income can be quite good but it’s very grindy/repetitive. Some like it, some don’t. Best ship sizes for alpha: frigate.
Amarr isn’t really limited by their weapons in PvE. Lasers do more damage which compensates for the narrow damage types available. And they can switch ammo on a dime to better maximize ammo for range. I guess if anything, I’d stay away from Angel Cartel as they are primarily explosive which is what armor is weak to. And to a lesser degree Guristas. Unless you’re kiting in which case you likely won’t be taking much damage anyway. If you stick to Amarr space you’re good.
That is an option, but not really the option for me.
I looked into these based on your comment. I’m not sure how lucrative they are to start but they might be worth a shot. I’ll also look into ships for combat anomalies.
I know that some of the NPC factions are intended to be weak against the player empire factions, so I thought about trying to get to Sansha space and ratting there. The trouble would be not dying before I could find a way to get the loot back. Not sure I could fly anything that would make the trip and could deal with big Sansha rats though.
A punisher will do fine for basic Abyssals once you know what to do. makes about 10 mil per hour doing T0. Very repetitive, some people like it some don’t.
Note that combat exploration isn’t necessarily Anomalies, in fact I’d suggest to avoid those for the most part because the chance of getting escalations that are in high sec is rather low. Instead use scanner probes to scan for the sites yourself, a more holistic play style involving different gameplay loops making it feel less grindy. You’ll find more sites that way which increases your RNG rolls for loot. High sec anomalies are for afk alts and/or people who don’t actually want to play the game while using drones or auto target missiles. Not for active players using turrets.
Combat exploration in high sec is best done in destroyers or cruisers, for Amarr alphas that’s the Coercer or Dragoon, (Navy) Omen or the Phantasm. If you do this in Amarr space there are two faction, Sansha and Blood Raider. BR is more difficult/scary until you learn how to deal with them, then they become easy and since they ARE scary you will have less competition. Also their 3/10 drop loot like mad, those are the ones you can easily do in a destroyer. As said, loot could be 100s of millions, nothing or something in between. Some like it, some hate it.
Hauling. Amarr ships ships are good at solo hauling.
Well, and a Legion in for solo ganking in Wormholes works pretty well confessor can work, a navy slicer as well. Besides from this…. Well, Playing for 2 decades and i must admit that CCP is very eager in „limiting“ solo pvp content - at least in PvP, in general, and amarr ships were never designed to work solo or in small gangs, although they offer some great support ships for fleets - even in the T1 department
This changed a bit over the cause of the years, but not that much.
so yes they work for solo PvE, and …. Hauling.
Sooner or later everyone starts to crosstrain anyway so… look what transfers well to Minmatar maybe (Gunnery skills), and enjoy the flexibility. Before long you realize that you want to fly all races, and having a solid base of support skills minimizes the effort training into another race.
Sounds a bit aloof ? Yes, but i made this experience on all my combat chars. Decide the ship size you are best at, and train into them. Then work you way out and up if you feel comfortable.
But again, for pure solo play, Amarr ships excel in the thrilling field of…. hauling.
