What Would Make It Special

Other reasons to subscribe are obvious, so

technically.

The PC player base is over 900M. The dynamic is simple.

But what is the target audience size for eve? are we aiming at 10-16-year-olds who play Fortnite? are we looking at ppl who only play fps? what is the actual number than saying there is a 900m player base to tap into?

is there any reason for people to long term subscribe then? no loyalty for supporting a company? we should scrap SP and become a game where you can give instant gratification and fly any ship? if all options are on the table is not just get into titans and supers? no build-up learning to fly smaller ships gaining experiences? I do agree the SP system is outdated but I also believe letting anyone fly anything would also be wrong. Are there other ways to fix it yes increase SP learning times scale it out lower skill points for skills reduced difficulty to keep the essence of eve but make it easier for new players to join in.

The target audience for every game is everybody.

Subscriptions would come from players enjoying the game, and more PLEX could be put towards actually experiencing it.

Instant gratification should be used scientifically, and as that, yes, which is beneficial for a user wondering where his money is going.

The build-up of learning to fly smaller ships is cost-effective.

Letting anyone fly anything is most rewarding.

So, your suggestions of SP are whimsical.

So just buy plex buy skill injectors and you can do all that now? what changes do you want to add?

You’re suggesting people spending 26y or $25k instead of buying carriers for 1.5B ISK and having a B-R whenever they would.

so what changes do you want to add? Do you shoot down scaling skill points so they train faster and you can play catch up in a shorter period of time? just day one bam titan go?

Of course.

Then no new players would come, all the old players would be multiboxing titans because they got the isk to buy them and any new player try to go make isk will just get pummeled to death by them? or wait are we making ships free? is everything free? no more market?

That’s extremely irrational; EVE is one of the most varied and deep sandboxes available.

Which is more economic flow and content, both being excellent subtopics.

yeah, but it would be unfair, all the people playing for 19 years who had all the SP still have the ISK to replace ships, should we not also take that away? to make it fair as there is a disadvantage… they can just reship into something that counters each time you undock as a new player…

Let’s hypothetically look at how the game would look like without SP and if every character had access to anything:

  • There would be no specialization. The only limit to what a person would fly is now ISK.
  • Alts can fly anything immediately. No more ‘this POS dropped a Naglfar, does anyone have a character that can fly it?’
  • Reputations are worthless as any player with bad reputation can get an alt with all skills unlocked the next day for free and continue playing/scamming/infiltrating as if nothing happened.
  • No investment of players into characters - same thing as above, who cares about their alts being specialised when any character can do anything?
  • No predictability in war: an enemy that brings Nightmare fleets today can swap to Machariels or HACs as soon as they have the stocks for the ships, as pilots no longer need to train into a new doctrine. wars
    are much less predictable.
  • Cyno hunting alts, scouts and other characters can be recycled daily to provide fresh faces, so no one ever knows who they’re up against.
  • Meta strategies are followed much faster, if any unbalanced situation exists where ship A is deemed best, there is no slow gradual change before more people follow the meta, but this happens a lot quicker as the skill training delay is removed (think Rorqual mining with injectors, except no injectors needed)
  • No more feeling of investment into your characters, when any character is equal to any other.

Personally I see SP as limiting factor necessary for the game, as necessary as ISK is another limiting factor in the game.

You could play without ISK as limiting factor on the test server. It’s fun for a few fights and then it becomes silly and boring. Everyone is using the biggest best ships all the time and there is no sense of accomplishment or attachment to ships.

Likewise playing without SP requirements would mean no sense of attachment to characters and a similar idea that playing for a few weeks trying everything can be fun, but then what? You’ve tried everything, nothing new will be unlocked for you and you either start complaining about the ‘lack of content’ or stop playing.

What I love about SP is that 5 years into the game I still regularly unlock new playstyles. And that each of my characters has a role defined by their SP, a role that I chose for them and which makes them feel useful and worth something to me.

Take away SP requirements and each of my alts and your characters is the exact same, except for name and portrait.

" If new player retention is the main goal… "

Somewhere in the presentation it was mentioned that 57% of Eve players have joined in the past 4 years. From which it seems to me that the long term vets overplay their hand in thinking they are the bulk of Eve players when it comes to trying to influence things or rage quitting over CCP failures.

Not really.

There would: actual personality.

That’s called content.

That would be, “Can anyone skillfully pilot a Naglfar?”

So what?

Character names would become more valuable, and appearances (which can already be altered with real money) would be somewhat unique.

That makes what’s called the meta seem better. Comms would be more exciting.

People would want to keep only a few accounts, and it’s possible limiting recycles to a month or so.

That’s OK.

That was already mentioned and addressed.

Then make arguments.

That’s specifically irrelevant on Tranquility because ISK actually is a factor.

Who cares; then it’s one of the most varied and deep games available.

That’s technically possible without SP.

That’s the opposite of loyalty to a character.

Horrific idea. A galaxy with no characters?

What exactly are you suggesting?

The inverse of op’s suggestion concerning skill point equality across the galaxy and no character building, utilization, specialization and uh my toon is the same as yours.

You’re not validating your opinion with any points.

I think youre focused on the troll and not considering the reality of my words.

“Nuh uh.”
