Control Towers (AKA POSes) can be scanned down using an expanded probe launcher. On one hand, this makes sense. It’s a structure you can target and shoot so why not be detectable by combat probes? If you make a bookmark at a control tower and fleet warp into it, everyone with the right password goes in… and everyone else with the wrong password (or who put the password in the new ship name entry by mistake) just splats the bubble and bounces off. So warping straight to a hostile tower isn’t going to get you inside anyways. You’d just end up near the tower but not in it. You could have done the same thing by warping to the moon.
Because not everyone dumps them exactly on the warp in and some people want to land x distance from the tower instead, and because its far faster to probe it than to bother working out exactly which moon its at when a planet has a bunch
