Why are mercenary dens unkillable?

Why does a 22M structure which is only available in sov null and for a very small number of null bloc “elites” anyways, has a reinforcement timer?

On the other hand there is the Moon Drill which is a 600M+ structure which is available for almost everyone and it does not have any reinforcement timer?

I am aware eve tries to mimic real life where the so called “elites” are supposed to have all the benefits but does it have to mimic all the shitty aspects of real life?

Can we have the mercenary dens added to wormholes? or some sort of new passive(?) income mechanics which small wh corps can benefit from and which doesn’t create a C1-4 wh cartel like C5-6?

you are aware that Moon drills HAVE a reinforcement timer, yes?

  1. from what i understand you seem to think that mercenary dens are an awesome source of income for nullseccers? lol. really no. They are rather a minor inconvenience, that you need to get rid of, as it may shut down some JB or other Hub upgrades
  2. you seem salty, my dear. Should i remember that wormholers have ways to have good income?

Mercenary dens are killable, you just have to return after the reinforcement timer to finish them off.

Just like Metenox Moon drills, which also have a single reinforcement timer.

Mercenary Dens leech workforce from Skyhooks at temperate planets.

Wormholes have no Skyhooks and have no use for workforce either as this is a sov null resource used for sov null upgrades.

You seem to think Mercenary dens are a good passive income source.

Their passive income is minimal, the biggest impact of mercenary dens is that you:

  • can place them in hostile sov systems to leech their workforce and turn off Ansiblex jump gates or other upgrades, or
  • you defensively place them in friendly space to prevent the spot from being taken by hostile merc dens, which is a bit of mandatory space work that requires you to do a PvE site once every 3 days so your ansiblex jump gates aren’t turned off.

This PvE site has OK loot.

There also is a small bit of ‘passive income’ but that’s really minimal compared to the rest.

TL;DR: merc dens are mandatory space work and a way to leech from enemy systems to turn off their upgrades.

As a wormholer you too have access to merc dens, just not in your holes. You can:

  • reinforce and destroy existing merc dens for loot
  • place your own merc dens to leech workforce and get a bit of passive income

The only trouble is that merc den gameplay requires you to return to the location over multiple days or weeks, which isn’t really compatible with the randomness of wormhole connections.

But luckily you still have other things to shoot or steal in null sec.

1 hour “reinforcement timer” for a 600M moon drill vs 24 hours reinforcement timer for a 20M mercenary den still doesn’t make sense.

Only if they are unmaintained. When maintained they are just another source of on-demand PvE content and passive income.

Mercenary dens were supposed to be used in hostile null space but they really aren’t. So the 1 day reinforcement cycle is just protecting them from being destroyed by hostiles. A 20M structure is not worth coming again the next day.

If they are such “mandatory space work” let’s just remove the passive income from them and make the loot from their PvE site the same as null combat anoms. Wormholes have plenty of “mandatory space work” but their isn’t any passive income treat for them.

Their isn’t a need of adding more on-demand PvE content in null sec. They already have CRAB beacons which make plenty of isk any time on demand. Not to mention the on-demand exploration and mining sites with the new sov upgrades. Also guess who doesn’t have access to crab beacons? Yep wormholes.

TL;DR: Either moon drills should get a real reinforcement timer or reinforcement timer should be removed from mercenary dens or mercenary dens should be added to wormholes with/without the skyhooks.

You seem to think null sec with local chat, cynos, controlled entry and exit jump gates is more risky compared to wormholes. lol. really no.

What passive income do wormholers have access to that null sec doesn’t?

Merc dens are defended by a single player who likely has a life besides the game.

Metenox moon drills are an alliance asset and can be defended around the clock.

You sound jealous of a minor null sec income source.

Are wormholes not profitable?

It already exists.

You’re about a year late to complain aboyt the introduction of merc dens.

There is no need of removal of PvE content in null either.

Neither.

Metenox moon drills have good reinforcement mechanics for an alliance asset and merc dens make no sense in wormhole space.

You sound jealous of wormholes.

Is null sec not profitable without the passive merc den income?

I thought you said it was “mandatory space work” and not PvE content?

Obviously any passive income outside of null sec wouldn’t make sense.

read what i wrote. i never said that null sec space is more risky or less risky than wormholes. It is another debate, and you should also mention the possibility to roll whs leading to your wh system, mass limits etc. But once again that’s not the topic.
But as Gerard also replied to you, merc den is not really a huge source of income in null sec, it is rather used offensively to disrupt sov hubs upgrades (jumpbridges etc), or defensively to prevent hostiles from anchoring their own merc den.
I don’t say that there is no income from merc den, just that the income is not huge, so your post seems irrelevant.
And moon drills reinforcement timer is not 1H. Not even talking about the need to manually repair them.
Honestly it seems to me that you are complaining about things that you are not really used to deal with.
