Why Do I Suck So Bad at PvP?

Why Do I Suck So Bad at PvP?
Don’t worry, you not the only one!

If you really do solo… No Intel! No alts! Nothing else than you and your boat (what ever it is), then most likely you will die within 10 seconds surrounded by 15+ other pilots, neutralizing, scramming, webbing, ecm, all the electronic warfare we have is on you!

Now it’s either you continue doing so OR you join a group and start whoring on those kills yourself.

As you are only a 4 year old player, I can now see why you don’t understand how CCP operates.

Low sec gate fighting in small ships is a very specific mechanic set.

Consider these things:

  1. The gate guns come to your aid. As soon as they agress you, the guns will start shooting them with about 300 dps… So if they are big enough to tank the guns they’ll need help locking your little boat fast. If they’re small enough to lock you easy they will not tank them long. This is a major advantage for you.

Don’t get confused and attack first… pirates are red but still cannot attack freely because of the gate guns. You can attack them freely… but then the gate guns won’t defend you because you engaged.

If they are accepting fire from gate or station guns in anything small, they won’t want the fight to last long. I’ve seen guys troll kill pvp’ers with a tank Nereus that just tackles aggressors who accept gate fire… and then tanks the pvp’er while the gate guns do the killing.

  1. as with any fight, mobility provides salvation. I recommend flying afterburner ships with either buffer or ancillary rep tanks for most fights involving gates/stations.

This allows you the option of burning back to the gate, if you haven’t agressed, and jumping through.

Remember, nobody can use a gate or enter a ststion for 60 seconds from the last offensive act. So if a camp catches you and you can get back to the gate (overheat that rig) you can jump through and they cannot.

If you are MWD fit, (especially with long range guns), your best strategy will likely be to run in a straight line away from the enemies to 1) avoid scramblers 2) force chasers to fly up your tail pipe where you can hit them perfectly

If you try to burn back to the gate with MWD… and someone has a scrambler… which any camp will… they will scramble you and turn off the MWD… and you’ll be parked.

Here is a continued discussion of mechanics:

The game is brim with seasoned players, you wouldn’t stand a chance.

That’s because he hides in null. He never leaves the safety of it. Ever.

He even courier contracts someone to flush away his own ■■■■ lol.

You are doing it wrong.
You are supposed to attack the helpless and then call yourself elite. That’s how you win at Eve.
There used to be more targets though.

This is unconventional tackles and pirates use them too :smirk:

The most frequent poster in a thread asking for help at PvP is someone who doens’t PvP. When you ask him if he has personal experience, or if he can provide any fits or name any ship, he just dodges the question. Really gets your noggin swirling.

If you want to reach lowsec without risking running into gate camp, which you could check for in the in game map by the way, then try going through Thera. https://www.eve-scout.com/

It’s 172 dps per turret at maximum damage, which starts low and ramps up over time.

Oh I pvp.

This guy’s fit was damn great and good fun! I’d recommend it but he relies on dps from T2 so not good for the OP. Otherwise pretty easy fit. I mean look how much effing damage it took to take him down in that frigate hahaha. (will post kb when up)

Well my advice to you, as others have said, If you want to Solo pve in low or null is ”join a Corp that runs there”. Your Corp will protect you because you serve as bait. There are win win situations. Safety in unskilled numbers. Null and low can be safer then high sector. Yes you can out fly people but a PVE build is at a disadvantage to a PvP build. If he has skills trained that are one percent better then you, then you will be in your pod when he is still in his ship. I have made may good friends in this game. If it is a good Corp they will help you with your PvE/PVP. even if it is just to sell stuff. Wormholes? They are an option too.

I applaud you for understanding what the game is and not being one of the “whiners.” Also, good on you for playing how you want. That IS, after all, the whole point of a sandbox.

Now, I’m not sure what sort of PvE you like to do, but I’m guessing you’ve figured out that different content requires different ships/fits to be successful. You seem to have at least a decent grasp of the things needed to avoid conflict with other players…even gate camps. Just keep practicing :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, I know you said you prefer doing the solo thing but I’d really consider looking into joining a corp. It may make your experience much better. There are many out there that focus on PvE content. I’d suggest checking out Twitch and YouTube as well. EVE has quite a few exceptional PvE players that stream and are very knowledgeable and helpful with the things you like to do. Many have their own corps you can join.

Good luck to you

That’s the point of a good preparation, the other guy must never stand a chance. Don’t worry, what you are experiencing is the norm, particularly if you are on your own. But there are ways and tricks to learn to survive in hostile space, and you can start here:

I have done a lot of solo PVE in lowsec. In my opinion you have a couple options. The best option is covert ops cloaking and using a ship like the Stratios or Tengu. If these are not an option, but you do have access to normal cloaking devices, you can bring most ships to lowsec using the MWD+Cloaking trick to get through gates. This would be ideal because you can bring larger PVE ships which will allow you to kill the tougher clone soldiers in asteroid belts and complete the higher level combat sites (cosmic signatures, escalations, etc.)

If you don’t have access to cloaking, you can use a ship that aligns to warp in less than two seconds. This makes you nearly impossible to catch and you can warp from system to system going through gates without really worrying about anything.

Whichever method of travel you use, find a system deep in lowsec with nobody in local. Try belt ratting, do all of the anomalies, etc. Occasionally you can do so in more populated systems. Keep practicing evasive tactics as suggested by others in this thread.

Here is an example of a ship you can use for lowsec PVE with the MWD+Cloak trick. You need to put the MWD on it when travelling and probably turn off the hardener to save CPU.

There are a couple ships capable of aligning to warp in less than 2 seconds that are available to alpha clones. I used to use the Daredevil with polarized blasters which I don’t recommend unless you are just bored and looking to do something ridiculous. The one ship I have settled on for this task is the Sunesis. Below is an example Sunesis fitting for solo lowsec PVE. You have to remove the combat modules in the low slots and replace them with inertial stabilizers while travelling. Then, with the right skills, the ship will align in 1.9 seconds.

There is too much paranoia about the 2 second align time.

That vexor fit is terrible. You can’t mwd cloak with an AB and mixing extenders with ancils is silly.

MWD should be in the cargo hold. I said in my post “You need to put the MWD on it when travelling and probably turn off the hardener to save CPU.” Although I accidentally put a 5mn in there instead of 50. Will fix that now. Idk about the ancil + extender combo. You would have to enlighten me on that one.

Ancils are rubbish for pve anyway as they’re too costly to use (and too annoying to keep stock of charges in low sec). You want to have resists and then either choose EHP fit (extenders+ extender rigs), regen fit (extenders+purgers) or active tanking fit (shield booster).

Mixing tanking types is like mixing guns, not a good idea (exceptions exist).

The Vexor is a fit I have never used myself. I came up with it just now as an example. I only buffer fit for PVP. For PVE I always fit either passive shield recharge, shield booster or armor reps. In this case, I chose a shield booster. I suppose there could be another hardener or amplifier instead of the shield extender, but I feel like a little extra ehp never hurts. Either way, the main thing is the 50mn mwd and cloaking device II. The PVE fit can be whatever OP wants. Alphas don’t have access to cloaking anyway, so I think the Sunesis is my favorite choice for doing what OP wants to do since I haven’t had Omega in a long time.
