Why is it so easy to recover bad security status. Endless suicide ganking in high sec with 0 penalty

Yes, I have an alt that I use mostly for hauling. But I also lost ships on this character before. I’m not sure why it doesn’t show. Recently I also lost quite a lot here.
After analysing it later I admit some of it was clearly my mistake.
But coming back to the main point — I simply don’t see how a small Gallente transport ship can survive an attack from 3–4 players.

Why would it ? EVE is a game where you can beat a battleship with a frigate. The game is full of asymmetric situations. It is not supposed to be ‘fair’….it is supposed to make you come up with strategies and solutions.

Depends.

As my choice of ‘small Gallente transport ship’ I like using the Viator. Blockade runners are notoriously hard to catch if piloted well.

Surviving an ‘attack’ of 3-4 players in it is easy: I don’t get caught by their gatecamp or other attempt at catching me.

But say you’re flying a T1 Gallente hauler instead, which are easier to catch.

You can still make it very hard for any group of 3-4 players to catch your hauler by using the MWD cloak trick to align fully cloaked during your single moment of vulnerability at gates. Use a T2 cloak and 50MN microwarp drive.

If executed well, people csn only catch you if they’re capable at decloaking your ship in the 10 seconds it takes you to align. This excludes many potential dangers.

Alternatively, or in addition to that, make sure your small Gallente hauler has relatively good effective hitpoints for it’s loot value.

For good tank add a meta or T2 damage control, shield extender and hardeners as well as shield rigs to your haulers for trips in HS space.

And based on your ship’s effective hitpoints pick a maximum cargo value threshold that you don’t want to cross. It’s been years since I flew Epithals in HS but I recall I had like 20k EHP and didn’t want to exceed 50 million ISK cargo in one trip.

Could people still kill me with unlimited resources? Always.
Would it be easy? No.
Would it be profitable? Not really.

Would people hunt my ship? Unlikely.
Would it hurt if I lost it? No.

That is how you survive potential attacks on your hauler: make it hard and unprofitable to kill you, as well as easily replacable if it does happen.

Fly safe!

Yes, you are completely right. Ironically I am actually a textbook example of lack of experience.

I was farming missions on my BS, and I was collecting wrecks with a mobile tractor – I don’t remember the exact name, the device you deploy outside the ship. Some player came and started shooting my collector, which flagged him, so I attacked him. And that’s where I already lost. My fit was made for missions, and I was convinced that either CONCORD would arrive soon, or I would destroy him, or CONCORD would finish him.

But he caught me so I couldn’t warp, and he started draining my energy. It was a T3 cruiser. Surprisingly he was tanking my damage, and I still had a lot of NPCs on grid shooting me. After a few minutes I realized I had basically trapped myself. He was hitting me for about 15 minutes before he finally killed me.

Conclusion: I shouldn’t have attacked him. He was provoking and waiting exactly for that.

But with Gallente transport ships I have a huge problem. I don’t know if I should fit them for fast warp and warp stabilizers or for tank. With a tank fit I still evaporate in about 10–15 seconds, and with a fast-warp fit it’s even worse. I still can’t escape and I just die in a few seconds.

Unfortunately that’s just my experience so far. I don’t yet have the skills for better transport ships and I also can’t afford fittings worth hundreds of millions.

I wrote that when I was replying to the post above. Thank you for the advice, once again I appreciate it. I will try what you wrote. I have used different fits, but with poor results, more on the basis of either it works or it doesn’t, and the frustration is getting bigger and bigger.

If you want you can share some of those fits so I can give feedback on them, or I might share an improved version once I get home.

Oh yes, very much. One thing is certain – I think everyone here would agree that you have a lot of experience and you know who still has a chance to escape. But I, as a really old guy for many people, have mostly relied on what other people showed or what I tried myself. Still, what you shared with me is already a higher level of knowledge, and that’s probably why many people like me simply don’t know how to play correctly. So we end up with a lot of frustration, and you end up thinking we are writing nonsense.

The other guy was using a classic baiting tactic….attack someone’s MTU and hope for a response when they go suspect. In other words the MTU was not his real target, it was you.

It depends what volume of stuff you are transporting. I use a fast align ( 1.6 seconds ) Sunesis for low volume expensive stuff….up to 600m3 of stuff. It only has 15K EHP, but its not about tank…its about getting out of Dodge as fast as possible. I call that ship Road Runner….

Is it?

So why not do it yourself?

You’re not really going to fit your way to survivability in a T1 hauler, especially if you are putting anything of value into it.

The fittings that will most contribute to the survivability of a T1 hauler are an improved cloaking device II and a 50mn microwarpdrive. What you do with it after that is sort of a personal preference. Tank, agility, whatever.

You’re not MEANT to survive a gank attempt in it. If the attempt even happens, you screwed up. The point is to avoid being attacked in the first place, and the only way you’re going to reliably do that in a T1 hauler is either obsessive multibox scouting, or cloak+mwd.

That said, I pretty much only use a T1 hauler as a cheap intrasystem shuttle. I’d never try to move anything a significant distance in one.

Last night, I was doing Level 4 faction warfare mission (I know not high sec) and I lost my Loki due to a Lachesis pilot I ignored in local as I spammed my dscan. I ended up later finishing the mission in a Typhoon, which is usually much easier to catch than a Loki, but I played smarter and managed to get in, finish the mission, and get out without getting caught. I knew that if I got caught, I was dead…so I played to not get caught. There are many ways to not get caught, and is often situational in which tactic you employ.

I don’t get it. The only time I’ve been player killed in highsec was a duel that I started.

I don’t think the gankers are in the room with us right now…..

Align is sub 4s, can do mwd/cloak trick, has a WCS and an Interdiction Nullifier.
Has enough tank to survive a smartbombing, probably.

The cap battery is there so you can burn off a station to make an insta undock, I guess you can swap it for more shield tank, but you’ll struggle to fit an LSE or LASB so it’s mediums, which still don’t give you much tank to work with.

Edit: was using a random char and not all V to model in pyfa, fixed that and switched to 3x nano rather than 3x inet stab, the align is slower, but not more than a whole second slower, so either aligns in 4 ticks, and the nanos don’t give a sig radius penalty. If you don’t have all V then inet stabs can be a better choice

Just wanted to show a Tier 1 fitted ship so noone can say he/she can fly it because of skills

Destruction is healthy for the game, deal with it.

I’m really in the dark about Hi sec ganking. I will not lie

But why does the game allow a -10 sec status player to be in a ship in a system that is over .5 sec rating in the first place?

I mean, IF they ever wanted to change their stripes, all they really needed to do is combat anoms till their Sec status was better.

and seriously, please stop. Do you really think he is trying to insult this player.

Stop being so emotional. Even the person you are “protecting” never said anything, why should you
