If you do it remotely the agent will take the rewards as a kick back.
-You forgot to bookmark your MTU and you want to go back
-A fleet member got disconnected and you want to wait until they’re back in the fleet to collect standing and mission reward
-You want to go back and mine
-You just don’t want to hand in the mission yet. You have no good reason, no one can tell you what to do because you’re a strong independent missioner who don’t need no man.

I usually don’t realize that until I go and try to deploy my MTU later on, why do scoop from cargo and remove from overview have to be right next to each other

Those are all good reasons to delay turning in a mission. I agree that you don’t want missions to auto-complete when you dock, but you still have to “Start a Conversation”.
That said, I could see how easy it would be to talk to the wrong agent, and you don’t want to turn that mission in for any of the above reasons, so the “Complete Mission” button would be a kind of confirm button.
