Back when i used to play one of the key things we beat into our new players in j space was to remember to rename their ship in order to prevent giving away free Intel.
Now you’re able to link right to the pilot of any ship just by showing info on dscan.
Confusingly there is now a warning about remembering to name your ship but what’s the point if that information is just a r-click away?
You could even view killmarks until they changed that.
O.o but why? Was there something that happened while i was gone that made people think dscan needed to be buffed?
No idea. I think it’s related to the new ship information panel.
So you don’t even play EVE right now?
I do i had just been gone for about 6 months or so.

Is this showing the info of any ship showing on dscan?
Or is this extra info limited to ships on dscan that are already visible on your overview? Because in that case you don’t get extra info, it’s just the same info you already have presented in a more convenient manner.
I think we were able to see killmarks of ships off-grid through dscan but do believe this was fixed as it was a bug.
I tested it with ships off grid and it still showed up.
Have you been on the same grid before though?

Okay if i haven’t been in grid during the same session it doesn’t show.
While that’s not as large a buff as i thought this is still a major one in j space.
When we were watching a whole we’d make sure to change our ship name any time we cloaked to ensure some who managed to see us when decloaked couldn’t tell us from just a random daytriper. This stop working if they managed to get on grid with you.
We also used to use a similar trick in fw to hide what plex known fcs were in to avoid our less experienced groups being targeted. (Here it was just naming everyone’s ship the same not changing it but same idea)
I’m not saying this isn’t a good thing or that it is just wondering how intentional it is.
I don’t think it was fully intentional as CCP accidentally also showed the killmarks on off-grid ships so it may not have been fully tested.
They did fix that one thing, so if you can find other new behaviour of dscan that is showing off-grid information I guess they may also patch that out again as I don’t think that’s intended either.

However what is intentional and what is not is a good question. Even in the long past, if I recall correctly, you could retain some information through d-scan if you’ve visited a grid and I think some cases that is intentional.
One example that comes to mind is wrecks, if you never visited them their names are generic and when you show info on them they show a generic wreck icon and details, but if you warp on grid then off and you d-scan their name might be the actual one (like when a ship is renamed) and if you show info on the wreck through the d-scan window now you will see the actual details not just the generic ones. Or something along those lines.
I only ever see the pilot info from a dscan’s shíp show info if that ship is on grid with me. Even when a ship I dscanned leaves the grid, the pilot info goes away.
Reddit figured out where i was messing up.
I didn’t re dscan. I had them on grid, checked if i could see it. I could. Warped off grid checked again and i still could. Logged off to see if session change erased it and scanned again. Now i couldn’t.
Had i dacaned again after leaving grid i would have seen it stop providing the pilot info
