Will a lot of Plex for omega discounts be removed in NES in the future?

Value Over FOMO: Omega, You, and Store Clean Up | EVE Online
Through this news, I’m more afraid of those scenarios

Some of these changes result in slightly lower prices — but we’re not waving flags about it. This is about cleaning up and modernizing our approach, not running clickbait campaigns.

At the very least, CCP is already starting to prepare for the EU’s coming legislation to ban deceptive marketing and bait campaigns. Good to see that the EU drives the market into the right direction even with just the announcement of legislation.

I suspect they will be, less stacking, more forced to pay the ‘new’ full price. While there might not be less sales, there might be less deep discounts. Especially those that stack over time.

This is not being done for your benefit, but for CCP profit optimization, as Pearl Abyss wants to sell CCP asap. Thus they need to show ways to take over a potentially profitable company, as a result we can expect these kinds of changes (if not more so).

But I wonder if these changes will now drive away even the old timers that saw ways to cheaply continue to play Eve Online…

@Dyver_Phycad I think you’re giving the EU way too much power in your mind. As always with legislation, you don’t change your stripes due to expected changes, but only after the fact when you actually know what to change your stripes to. Even in the EU the legislation first needs to be implemented before anyone is actually impacted. And as we’ve seen with lootboxes in Belgium and the Netherlands, not everyone is one the same page in the EU, and such small countries are often not worth it to change your stripes. What publishers then do, as seen in Belgium and the Netherlands, they just don’t make their games available in those regions. This change by CCP is just for their own benefit, they are seeing WAY too much people taking advantage of these constructions and with the weak dollar compared to the euro, they can afford to give a few percentage points of discount on the dollar price (which has dropped ~10%), I was not seeing the change in prices for Euro and Pounds…

Yes. The whole point of the changes is to eliminate: buy PLEX at discount, wait for PLEX for game time NES discount, get double discount.

Instead, they are adding PLEX to subscription packages, which you can treat as a discount that you get right away (compared to current packages). For example, pay for 3 months, get 3 months and 250 PLEX. That’s 16,66% discount, if you use 500 PLEX to buy a month of game time.

The double discount was good, if you can afford to wait, but it didn’t make any sense from a business perspective and it was obvious that it’s not going to last. I’m surprised that it lasted this long.

I am not a veteran. I have purchased PLEX to get ISK through legit trades of items in the NES. At present, only the future knows, but I am keeping an open eye on how this will play out. I don’t look at PLEX as a “cheap” method to play the game.

If I want Omega, it is cheaper to just pay cash for it. Omega is $20 per month, 500 PLEX runs $25 or $144 (sale price) for 12 months +1000 PLEX, $240 for 6000 PLEX. Normally I don’t wait for sales. I can get 10 Daily Alpha Injectors for $7 and make 600 million ISK or buy 100 PLEX for $5 and get 600 million ISK. Fairly obvious math here on what to purchase to make ISK.

I haven’t been buying the PLEX recently, only because I was busy with work. I think we will all know how much cash we want to invest in this game this autumn. CCP’s interest payment is due in October. By then we should know which way the wind blows. If or when PA sells the company, new owners might change PLEX or not touch it at all.

If you desire to help dig CCP out of that hole, buy stuff off them and maybe they can make the payment on that loan.

You do not buy PLEX for cash to Omega your account. You buy PLEX with ISK to Omega your account.

In which case it costs around 3b ISK for 1 month of Omega.

People used to do so though, and double-dipped in sales to get very cheap omega.

  1. Buy PLEX for cash during one sale
  2. Buy Omega for PLEX during another sale

By stacking sales like that it was even cheaper to buy Omega this way than it was to buy Omega directly during a sale.

I bet that this ‘sale stacking’ is what CCP is going to avoid now, but it’s not yet completely clear to me how CCP will do that according to the dev blog. The main thing we can expect is changes, and prices, packs and sales may look different than before.

I can imagine the “PLEX for Omega” sales to be removed or reduced in effect.

No I don’t. I pay cash, that was my point, in case you somehow read it wrong. I was pointing out buying omega, with anything other than cash, is costing you more. If you are plexxing with ISK, you will spend more hours working the game than you would a real job. Assuming you can make 200 million ISK per day, it will take month to make your omega. You’re being paid $20 per month to play for free. Then you have to factor in how many hours you wasted sitting at the PC. If I am sitting here my time is worth, $58 per hour based on my current salary. If I am not enjoying the game, then it is a waste of my time. Even if you only make $12 per hour flipping burgers for a clown, then 4 hours grinding for ISK is costing you $48 per day or $1,140 per month.
