To me it seems like your goal in EVE is to maximise ISK/hour, not fun/hour.
Many people play games for fun. I would also recommend anyone to make that their main goal, but I won’t stop you setting other goals. You apparently play for ISK.
You have correctly seen that the event does not maximise ISK/hour. Feel free to ignore it.
Why are you posting on the forum? You get zero ISK/hour here.
It’s worth noting that you’ve moved on to a discussion of higher-level matters beyond simply discussing event profitability. You’ve touched on the topic of enjoying the game. So let me clarify: do you enjoy mining ice? Scanning anomalies? Completing combat anomalies, which are fairly simple for EVE?In my opinion, there is no special fun in these activities that would differ from the usual activities of EVE players. The fact that my goal in the game is to earn the maximum income per hour is just your assumption. There are games in which players don’t earn any income at all, expressed in in-game currency. Nevertheless, people play them. I think they enjoy gaining power in the game, not necessarily in monetary terms. Let’s say they strive to dominate by doing something better than others. Earning the maximum hourly income is just one way to dominate the game. But it’s not the only one. For example, when I play chess, I don’t necessarily win cash prizes. Or, say, PvP battles. But I still try to dominate my opponent. Incidentally, some people enjoy not dominating the game, but simply interacting with friends. It’s the feeling of being part of something bigger than themselves. However, you don’t have to participate in the winter event to benefit from this. Here, I’m discussing only the event’s profitability and trying to prove that without good cash prizes, it’s not particularly worthwhile. This activity is too monotonous and not challenging enough to be enjoyable.
I think the contrary: the event is a good break from monotony.
I haven’t interacted with it much yet and have barely any points, but I’ve already had fun hunting down Yule LADs and had a Pioneer roam through various storms where we survived being dropped on by Redeemers and eventually caught a slow Porpoise in one of the ice sites.
It’s a fun event, and a nice break from what I usually do.
Focusing on reward only tends to suck the fun out of games in my experience. Your complaints seem to align with that experience.
I like to focus on fun and ‘trying new things’ instead.
This is the replacement of one monotonous activity with an activity that is no less monotonous.
You don’t have to participate in the event to do this. You can create small gangs and fleets with other goals. So what’s so special about this event? Is it just another boring activity? I don’t think it should be that way.
Let’s just say I enjoy an interesting discussion, but only if it’s truly interesting. This proves once again that I’m not as mercenary as you think.
This is a regular PvP activity, not related to the event. Or it is related, but very indirectly.
I’m trying to make a simple point. This event could be made much more interesting—if only there was a will. So that people would enjoy the valuable prizes, rather than entertaining themselves. After all, it’s customary to give gifts on New Year’s.
The ice sites only allow mining ships, which makes ice mining ridiculously safe, hence our idea to use blaster Pioneers. The event filaments allow the roam to teleport directly to our content (event ice miners). And the entry restrictions meant our Pioneers could easily hide from the Proteus and Redeemers or any other real ‘combat ships’ that we might encounter.
It’s creative emergent gameplay enabled by the event, and fully related to it.
The Endurance is so fast that it’s practically impossible to catch. And other ships are unnecessary for this event. While I agree that PvP on mining ships at least adds some variety, I suggest something different. I want real movement, not these small skirmishes.Give every player a Titan and see what happens. Or at least a dreadnought. The developers have been reluctant to change anything in the game for too long. They’re pray by these ships, creating a cult around them. But they’re just pixels with no real value. I recently watched a video where they seriously tried to prove that these ships cost tens of thousands of dollars. That’s why the game has become so boring. It changes little.
I assume Titans can be reprocessed for large amounts of minerals, making them valuable enough that players will create alts and inject billions in skills just to farm them if included in a reward track.
In short, better rewards drive higher engagement. In EVE, ISK/hour is the main motivator since truly original content is hard to create.
As a side note, I believe most activities will plateau around ~200M ISK/hour, as higher-paying content attracts more players and eventually drives returns down.
I don’t think anyone will be recycling Titans into minerals. I don’t think it’s profitable, since Titan BPCs are very expensive. Titans will likely buy up large power blocks at low prices. Furthermore, PLEX will rise significantly in price, as many players will start paying for their subscriptions with PLEX. Accordingly, the ISK supply will decrease in favor of PLEX. The money supply will be withdrawn from circulation and transferred to CCP. However, over time, the situation will normalize.
If everyone got a Titan, its value would crash to reprocessing price. Over time it might recover, but many would take the quick profit. However there’s the issue that the economy likely doesn’t have enough ISK to cover buy orders if tens of thousands of free Titans suddenly hit the market.
I could be wrong, as I haven’t done much research, but it seems to me that the cost of minerals is only a small fraction of Titan’s value. It’s mostly the cost of BPCs and the cost of rare items obtained as loot. However, I agree that this is a possibility. So, mineral prices will plummet, and mineral miners will suffer. I also agree that the economy will run out of ISK, as it will be removed from circulation to buy PLEX. It’s also possible that the number of accounts will increase, as players create new accounts due to their sudden wealth.
